Job Description:

Reporting to the Global Head of Safety and Compliance, the Head of Flight Safety shall be responsible for managing the US Flight Academy safety management system and voluntary ASAP program.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for implementation of the safety management system across the Sanford and Jacksonville US flight academies.

  • Act as the primary aviation safety focal for agencies, regulators and client airlines, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB), UK Civil Aviation Authority (UKCAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) as required.

  • Senior point of contact for the Emergency Response Plan (ERP)

  • Functional leadership of the Sanford and Jacksonville safety department

  • Lead investigator for major incidents, accidents and events.

  • Primary advisor to the Academy Director and Senior leadership on safety matters.

  • Positively influencing safety culture and the preservation of a just-culture within the organisation.

  • Facilitate hazard identification, risk analysis and risk management across all flight and ground activities.

  • Oversight of change management requirements in accordance with established procedures.

  • Custodian of the electronic reporting system

  • Receive, record, track, analyze and respond to incident, hazard and ASAP reports.

  • Ensure the dissemination of safety notices

  • Direct coordination with the training delivery team to ensure appropriate remediation and the prevention of risk escalation.

  • Further develop flight data monitoring capabilities for safety management and event investigation.

  • Prepare and deliver safety data and information to the monthly safety action group (SAG), quarterly safety review board (SRB) and event review committee (ERC)

  • Establish and implement a compliance monitoring program to monitor observance of regulatory, airline and internal compliance requirements.

  • Calling the attention of any observed non-compliances or poor standards, defining a timescale for remedial action to be completed.

  • Proposing and overseeing timely corrective actions to remedy any deficiencies within the organisation.

    Qualifications:

  • Pilot license holder (or previously held) – Civilian or military aviation

  • At least 2 years in a previous aviation safety or compliance monitoring position

  • Formal safety management system training/qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft office suite

  • Experience with the FAA ASAP program (desired)

  • Formal accident investigation training (desired)

  • Proficient with Centrik management system software (internal candidate)
