The Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake & Sandy has an exciting opportunity for a Water System Operator near Sandy City, UT in supporting the mission of providing high quality drinking water to Salt Lake City and Sandy City. We are the second largest water treatment facility in Utah and have been providing water to our member cities since 1935. Starting pay ranges from $23.54-$28.25 per hour depending on experience. The Position:

The District is seeking a full-time Water System Operator. The position involves the operation of two water treatment plants and distribution facilities. The prime objective of this position is to help assure a high quality, potable water for delivery to the District's customers at all times. The ideal candidate would be self-motivated, eager to learn, and willing to work rotating shifts.

The treatment of water and the operation of water treatment plant equipment requires specific work skills. The employee is responsible for utilizing a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system to operate District facilities from a control room. Water system operators are required to operate water treatment equipment, collect and test water samples, record data and adjust chemical feed equipment to provide high quality water and reliable service to our customers in a safe, timely, economical, and environmentally sensitive manner.

Rotating shift work including nights, days, weekends and holidays is a requirement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent with four years of water industry experience; Associate's Degree in science related field with two years of water industry experience; or Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or other related sciences.

Certification and Licensing: Valid Utah Driver's License. State of Utah Treatment and Distribution certification with a minimum of Grade 4 level restricted within one year of hire.
