Job Description Summary

Injection Molding Engineer is a "hands-on" position that plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing equipment and processes to produce high quality injection molded product. LSR specific engineer will need to have LSR injection molding experience. Engineer will be supporting, troubleshooting, and resolving issues related to LSR specific molds. Responsible for supporting the molding efforts on new program launches, validations IQ, OQ, PQ, setting up and/or revising manufacturing processes and assisting the manufacturing operations in problem solving and continuous process improvements. This position also mentors and provides training to other injection molding personnel.

Staff Molding Engineer (Silicone)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, implement and coordinate improvements to existing molding equipment and processes.

  • Support and recommend the disposition of all non-conforming products.

  • Understand and apply decoupled/systematic molding techniques in establishing new and existing processes, and general troubleshooting.

  • Support daily production by identifying chronic issues and problems that cannot be resolved by production associates.

  • Implement and coordinate all changes to existing molding processes by writing and approving PSCN’s (Process Sheet Change Notices).

  • Implement and coordinate all changes to existing molds by writing and approving MDCN’s (Mold Drawing Change Notices).Work with quality engineering personnel to improve existing procedures and measurement methods.

  • Function as a leader or team member on cross-functional teams to address assembly/customer quality issues.

  • Support continuous improvement activities by participating on CI teams, blitzes, 5S teams, Lean and 6 Sigma initiatives.

  • Identify and drive Cost Improvement Projects (CIP’s) to completion.

  • Support the implementation of new processes and auxiliary equipment to the molding production area.

  • Write protocols for new and modified processes by coordinating acceptance criteria with the molding quality engineer and assembly engineering as required.

  • Understand DOE methodology and use in developing new process windows and identifying mold tooling and processing improvements.

  • Collect and statistically analyze data, and document results in process development, IQ, OQ, PQ completion reports.

  • Support the ECO process, including part drawing modifications, material specifications and all other related paperwork.

  • Specify and/or purchase molds, equipment, tooling, and fixtures for new and existing changes.

  • Support new product development by supporting molding development engineering, product/process design, quality assurance, and assembly production to identify potential issues in the molding process before it is scaled up in molding production.

  • Participate in assigned career development training programs, including Validation Practitioner, Molding Toolkit, Six Sigma Green Belt, and Lean Lite training.

  • Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including HCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.

  • Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.

  • Other duties as assigned.

DELIVERABLES

  • Identify and complete engineering projects resulting in significant and measurable savings to Device Molding.

  • Provide floor support to help realize department goals.

  • Completion of Individual Impact Goals (IIGs).

  • Facilitate and drive OEE improvement to reach world class 70% or better with all LSR molds.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education:

  • B.S. degree in an engineering field. Plastics, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering degree preferred plus 6 years of related technical experience.

  • A.S. degree in one of above fields, plus 8 years of related experience.

  • No degree with 10 years of engineering technical experience.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of Six (6) years of experience (depending on education level) in various engineering fields relating to molding, manufacturing, quality control and process development.

  • LSR or silicone Injection molding experience required.

  • Experience with Solid Works, Microsoft Office, and MS Project preferred.
