Great new opportunity for a Chemist that will support our new products and applications team by developing laboratory methods and executing laboratory testing. This position is based out of Graymont's Sandy, Utah office.

Job Introduction:

Graymont is seeking a Chemist based out of Graymont's Central Lab in Sandy, Utah. This position report to the North American Lab Supervisor and will support our new products and applications team by developing laboratory methods and executing laboratory testing. In addition to assisting in the development of new products, this position will also support routine QA/QC testing.

Job description: Graymont is seeking a chemist with prior experience in experiment design and data synthesis. This position will be working with our new products and applications team to support the testing of low-carbon cementitious binder formulations in mining, soil stabilization, and traditional concrete applications. Prior knowledge in cement/concrete mix designs and familiarity with common test methods and materials associated with cement lab work is preferred. In addition to experience with cement, we are looking for someone who can integrate into our normal workflow and develop expertise in routine lime and limestone testing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Interface between the North American Central Lab and the new products and applications team.

• Assist with experiment design in support of new product development.

• Conduct research and development experiments in support of Graymont's new products and applications goals.

• Maintain well-organized physical and electronic laboratory notebooks (LIMS).

• Assist with initial data synthesis for Research & Development activities.

• Follow established laboratory safety policies and best practices.

• Perform maintenance and repairs on lab equipment and lab instruments.

• Conduct routine testing on limestone, lime products, and other raw materials using chemical and physical test methods to ensure that established lab turnaround times are met.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to develop and maintain a safe work culture.

• B.S. degree in Chemistry or science related field.

• Experience in experiment design.

• Willing to travel for professional development and work in plant environment as needed.

• Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and LIMS.

• Strong communication (both written and verbal).

• Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

• Ability to lift 50 pounds and sit or stand for long periods of time.
