Job Summary

Continuing Education is seeking a Biology 1610 (Fundamental Principles of Biology I: Cells, Genetics, and Biochemistry) instructor to teach Spring Semester 2025 which runs from January 6 to May 15, 2025. This is a 4-credit hour academic class that meets 4 hours a week usually Mondays and Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm. Class will be held at the University of Utah Sandy Center located at 10011 Centennial Parkway, Suite 100, Sandy, Utah. This is a one semester assignment with possible work in future semesters as needed.

Responsibilities

  1. Create a class syllabus and share with students at least two weeks prior to the start of the semester

  2. Set up class using Canvas, including syllabus and other content that students need to be successful

  3. Prepare for each class session

  4. Teach each class session

  5. Administer quizzes and tests, including a final exam

  6. Assign grades to each student

  7. Work with the School of Biological Science and main campus instructors as part of a cohort which includes a main campus meeting once a week

  8. Other responsibilities as outlined in teaching contract

Minimum Qualifications

A master’s degree in Biology and previous teaching experience is required. PhD in Biology preferred. A willingness to work with academic department and current instructors to use same curriculum, similar syllabus, exams and grading methods.

Preferences

Two or more years related experience

University of Utah and/or Higher Education teaching experience

Experience working with students and instructors

Works well independently

Strong written and verbal communication, coordination, and organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize deadlines, analyze and make informed decisions related to program

Computer experience with Microsoft Office, CANVAS , and CIS
