Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical science, life science, or closely related field.

  • Experience working as a laboratory scientist, technician, and/or equivalent position.

  • Experience with scientific equipment operation, calibration, maintenance, and/or troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge and practical working experience in molecular cloning, western blot analysis, and enzyme kinetics.

  • Knowledge of chemical hygiene, lab safety best practices and enforcement of the same.

  • Strong organization, record keeping, communication, and supervisory skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in biochemistry or chemistry, life science, or closely related field.

  • Advanced laboratory skills in bacterial culture and yeast genetics, including growth -based selection and screening of bacterial and yeast colonies;

  • Extensive experience in molecular cloning for nucleic acid and protein production, including the sequence-based analysis of these products;

  • Recombinant protein expression and purification using the automated Biorad NGC purification system; fermentation of secreted recombinant proteins from Pichia pastoris using an lnfors bioreactor system

  • Practical experience in using and maintaining the suite of instruments in the Peterson research laboratory (including nanospectrophotometer, chemidoc imaging system, centrifuges, cell disruptors, gel electrophoresis equipment, and molecular biology equipment). Additionally, the individual who fills this position will have experience with the instrumentation that comprises the Biochemistry Core Facility (Sorvall LYNX centrifuges, BioRad Pharoah Phosphorimager, Cary 300 Fluorescence Spectrophotometer, Waters High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography, BeckmanCoulter Optimal L-90K Ultracentrifuge).

  • Experience generating materials to support grant-related activities and publication materials.

  • Experience with placing orders through SAP , SOP documents and material inventories.

Job Description

The Peterson Laboratory in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX is looking for a grant technician to assist in conducting research for an externally funded project. The ideal candidate will have expertise in molecular cloning, protein biochemistry (immunodetection, purification and enzyme characterization), and a background working with yeast and bacteria. The selected candidate will assist in the development of projects aimed at describing copper trafficking processes in microbial pathogens.

Job Duties

Duties will be to support the NIH and USDA supported grant activities in Peterson laboratory, under the supervision of Dr. Ryan Peterson.
