Ginger Labs Staff Engineer, Web Apps in San Francisco, California

The Staff Engineer is a technical leader responsible for driving critical architectural decisions, mentoring team members, and ensuring the long-term success of our nascent web app. This role involves deep understanding and stewardship of our current stack and the ability to guide the team through complex technical challenges as we build upon it. You'll play a key role in shaping our evolving technical strategy and helping the team deliver consistently high quality results.

This role is hybrid, 2+ days per week in the San Francisco office, and other days from home.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the architecture and implementation of large-scale features and improvements across our web application platform

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers, fostering their growth and development

  • Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to define and execute on the technical roadmap

  • Identify and proactively address technical debt and scalability challenges

  • Evaluate and recommend technological changes or approaches to improve our development process and product quality

  • Contribute to hiring decisions and help define engineering best practices

  • Act as a technical liaison with other teams and stakeholders, effectively communicating complex technical concepts

  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and effective collaboration across teams

  • Make technical decisions with business strategy in mind

    What You Need:

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field

  • Expert-level knowledge of React, Redux, TypeScript, and modern front-end development practices

  • Extensive experience with authentication, API query patterns, performant management of complex app state, and robust web application architectures

  • Strong understanding of web performance optimization and scalability concerns

  • Experience with system design and making architectural decisions that impact entire projects or product lines

  • Expertise in coordinating the integration of designs or APIs from other teams or external providers, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical trade-offs

  • Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to successfully explain concepts to audiences of varying technical proficiency

    Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience with Wasm, Tauri, Web Components, local-first web development, rendering engines like Three.js or PixiJS, or other emerging web technologies

  • Involvement in the wider tech community through public speaking, technical instruction, or open-source contribution

For this position we are targeting a base pay between $200,000-$260,000. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
