ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

Catholic Charities is one of the largest, oldest, and most comprehensive nonprofit human services organizations in Northern California, annually reaching more than 60,000 vulnerable individuals of all faiths in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin Counties. PROGRAM & POSITION SUMMARY

In 2009, CYO Athletics extended its reach beyond out-of-school sports when it launched its first physical education program at St. Anthony Immaculate Conception School. CYO Athletics developed a curriculum to accommodate the school’s need for affordable, quality physical education programming. The program meets the Catholic School, California State and National standards for physical education for grades K through 8.

Students experience a variety of traditional sports and are introduced to new activities with a curriculum ranging from football to yoga to dance. In addition, the physical education classes teach about healthy lifestyles and how the body’s muscles work. The program also includes a monthly nutrition class with a nutrition educator that introduces children to the joy and social dimensions of food preparation, dining and education for living a healthy and productive life.

The Culinary Arts/Nutrition Educator will help lead the health and nutrition portion of our CYO Physical Education Program under the direction of the Nutrition Program Manager. The Culinary Arts/Nutrition Educator will be responsible for laying out and organizing the program along with teaching and running each classroom cooking setting. They will work under the supervision of CYO Athletics Manager as well in conjunction with the Physical Education teachers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create, prepare, and present nutritionally based curriculum modules for K-8 classroom(s) on a monthly basis.

  • In conjunction with manager; coordinate, prepare, and disseminate classroom teaching schedule for nutritionally based classroom modules.

  • Plan for and purchase all grocery supplies for CYO Athletics Culinary curriculum on a monthly basis.

  • Maintain, track, and deliver all culinary equipment necessary for teaching modules.

  • Track monthly culinary finances and expenses, and submit timely billing and reimbursement forms to appropriate departments.

  • Create and deliver nutritionally based curriculum at each CYO Athletics program site at least once a month.

  • Oversee and direct the work of classroom teachers/aides, interns, and parent volunteers in each classroom.

  • In conjunction with PE Manager, proactively seek additional funding and grant opportunities for CYO Athletics Physical Education/Culinary program.

  • Develop system for tracking effectivness and outcomes of CYO Athletics culinary curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience :

  • A degree/certification or experience in Culinary Arts

  • One year work experience utilizing Culinary Arts degree/experience

  • Minimum of 2 years work experience with youth, ages K-8

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

  • BILINGUAL in both Spanish and English Preferred

  • Ability to multi task in a high stress, everchanging environment.

  • Ability to work well in a group setting.

  • Sufficent skill to control a K-8 classroom while demonstrating strong communication skills and classroom leadership.

  • The ability to develop, aticulate, and lead healthy classroom friendly curriculum, for grades K-8.

  • Knowledge and ability to independently manage a budget.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Team work and cooperation.

  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations.

  • Managing incidents that may occur during a CYO event.

  • Work outdoors for 75% of the time. Must be able to work in a variety of inclement weather conditions.
