Compass Family Services Assistant Program Director, Urgent Accommodation Vouchers (afternoon/evening shift) in San Francisco, California

About the organization: Compass Family Services is a 100+ year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco's homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.

About the team: Compass Urgent Accommodation Voucher program provides temporary emergency hotel rooms for families and pregnant people in crisis. In addition to a hotel room, the program helps families connect with services and a path to stable housing.

Salary: $66,000 - $75,000

Schedule: Full time, Tuesday-Saturday, 1-9pm (Sun/Mon off)

Location: The Assistant Program Director will work at our offices in San Francisco and visiting families at the hotels.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Program Director works with the Program Director to oversee the day to day services of CUAV program at hotels throughout San Francisco. This includes supervision of CUAV Staff, administrative and program design and implementation, as well as providing direct support to clients. The Assistant Director will work across multiple sites to support the needs of shelter clients and shelter staff.

Specific duties include:

  • Supervise and support case managers and other staff, including: hiring, training, scheduling, stepping in with tough client situations or lapses in coverage, supporting professional development, and evaluating performance.

  • Implement program policies equitably; deescalate and appropriately follow-up with clients when needed.

  • Build and cultivate collaborative community partnerships, including with funders.

  • Strengthen partnership and effective communication with partnership hotels and staff; respectfully advocate on behalf of clients and staff when necessary.

  • Assist with coordinating intakes, transfers and discharges.

  • Represent the CUAV program in both internal and external meetings; offer shelter perspective on behalf of shelter clients and shelter staff.

  • Manage the CUAV program in the absence of the Program Director.

The Assistant Program Director should have these skills:

  • CA driver's license and ability to be approved as a Zipcar driver required (personal vehicle not needed).

  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in social work or a related field

  • Previous supervisory experience managing a small team is preferred

  • Demonstrated understanding of issues facing homeless and low-income families.

  • Experience working with people in crisis.

  • Strong interpersonal, listening and communication skills

  • Outstanding work habits: organized, reliable, team-oriented

  • Ability to work independently as well as to inspire and lead a committed team

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work.

  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and Zoom. Salesforce experience a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: $66,000-$75,000 annually.

  • Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation your first year, increasing to 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave.

  • Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.

  • Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests during years 2-5.

Location and Covid safety:

  • Office location: 1254 Market St AND visiting families staying at different hotels in SF

  • Covid vaccination required for all staff
