Harris & Associates is hiring a Technical Lead / Principal Engineer to provide project leadership, quality assurance / quality control, technical mentoring, and staff development for the water market team within the Engineering division. Harris & Associates’ water market includes potable water, wastewater, stormwater, and recycled water.

Technical Lead / Principal Engineer

Lead technical designs, manage project teams, provide QA/QC on design deliverables (i.e. linear pipelines, civil infrastructure, pump station projects, etc). Apply knowledge of infrastructure design, engineering principles, state regulations, and agency requirements to the design and review process. Offer expertise and technical mentoring. 

Position  Responsibilities:

 Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Leads technical aspects of projects with complex features specific to the water market, including pumping, conveyance, and storage

  • Plans, schedules, coordinates the preparation of Contract deliverables, including front-end documents, construction drawings, and technical specifications. for multiple major projects

  • Initiates and maintains relationship with water market engineering team in Harris, our clients, and our communities

  • Serves as internal and external subject matter expert

  • Helps prepare specific technical sections or strategic approaches for proposals for new work

  • Use sound technical judgment to perform duties and knows when to ask questions, seek assistance, or perform independent research.

  • Remain up-to-date in knowledge of local agency regulations, procedures, and design standards.

  • Effectively interact with peers and clients through written and verbal communication.

  • Research and write reports relating to project assignments.

  • Make verbal presentations at client or Harris meetings.

  • Train and mentor staff.

    Requirements:

  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, and other software

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field required

  • Master’s degree in civil engineering or a related field preferred

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License in CA and relevant state(s) required

  • 15+ years of relevant experience performing engineering work in the water market or similar practice of business

  • Establishing and adhering to budgets, schedules, work plans, and contract performance requirements

  • Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to prepare project documentation and correspondence, interact effectively with other team members, interface with clients, and deliver presentations on occasion.

  • Technical skills appropriate for the type of projects assigned.

    Compensation and Benefits

    The salary range for this position is $180,000-$220,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate
