SUMMARY

Provides information, patron service and facilitates ticket purchases at the San Diego Theatres Ticket Office windows, for all Civic Theatre and Balboa Theatre ticketed events. Position requires evening, week-end and holiday hours as well as some weekday daytime shifts—applicants must have flexibility in availability and submit complete availability schedule (included in application packet).

Successful candidates for this position must enjoy assisting and engaging with patrons on a wide range of questions. The successful candidate must provide availability for evening and weekend shifts, per collective bargaining agreement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist patrons in selecting and purchasing tickets for a variety of events taking place at the Civic Theatre and Balboa Theatre, in person at the venue event Ticket Office, utilizing the Ticketmaster Archtics ticketing system.

  • Assist Broadway / San Diego Season Subscribers in subscription ticket exchanges and additional ticket purchases, utilizing the Ticketmaster Archtics ticketing system.

  • Process all cash, credit cards, gift certificates, travelers checks, etc. received as payment during shift and balance to individual report.

  • Processes special ticket orders at management request.

  • Required availability for a minimum number of evening, week-end, daytime and holiday shifts each month.

  • Ability to physically move between work areas, Civic Theatre event windows and Balboa Theatre event windows.

  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisory and Management Staff.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Extensive computer experience in the use of Microsoft Office programs including, but not limited to, Excel and Word.

  • Knowledge of Ticketmaster and / or other ticketing system software and basic ticket office procedures.

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Clear, polite and effective verbal communication, in English, with patrons both in person.

  • Clear, polite and effective verbal communication, in English, with event presenters, representatives and all San Diego Theatres Staff.

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret documents such as event information, selling instructions, processes and procedures.

  • Ability to verbally communicate in Spanish a plus.

  • AVAILABILITY

  • Applicant must be available for a pre-determined percentage of available work shifts consisting of evening, week-end, daytime and holiday assignments, each month.

  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to make correct change for any and all cash transactions.

  • REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only guidelines may apply.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • None required.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to learn computerized ticketing system (currently Ticketmaster/Archtics) and all associated processes.

  • Experience using point of sale or data entry systems a plus.

  • Familiarity with professional office procedures and ability to learn ticketing procedures, ticket system reports and interpretations.

  • Flexibility to adapt to a variety of pressure situations and changing work environment, while maintaining a professional attitude and demeanor to ensure patrons are serviced with the highest degree of courtesy and efficiency.

  • Ability to shift quickly between work assignments as required by patron flow and staffing needs as determined by supervisors and management.

  • Effectively interact with other Ticketing Department and San Diego Theatres personnel in a professional and efficient manner.
