Quantum-Si Senior Scientist, Application Development in San Diego, California

We are seeking a highly talented and motivated Applications Development Scientist to play a pivotal role in advancing our next-generation proteomics sequencing platform. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting innovative proteomics workflows focused on the preparation of peptides and proteins from a diverse range of sample inputs for sequencing. You will also be tasked with creating new applications and supporting the needs of our commercial organization. This is an excellent opportunity for creative, forward-thinking individuals to contribute to the evolution of our cutting-edge single-molecule protein sequencing platform. Your contributions will directly impact our platform’s capabilities, driving scientific advancements in proteomics.

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Develop applications to the market that increase the adoption and utilization of next-generation protein sequencing.

  • Develop and implement innovative techniques for the preparation of peptide libraries from the digestion of proteins isolated from a diverse set of samples (plasma/urine/cell lysate/tissue) inputs.

  • Provide technical support and expertise to the commercial organization, ensuring smooth deployment and application of the platform by assisting with sample preparation and running potential customer samples.

  • Develop a library prep workflow to analyze post-translational modification of phosphorylation to assess the active signaling pathway from cancer or disease context with the aim of developing a workflow specific kit.

  • Contribute to the design, development, and optimization of surface chemistry and bioconjugation methods for immobilizing peptides on a semiconductor chip for single molecule protein sequencing.

  • Identify additional C-terminus peptide conjugation strategies to widen the application development scope enhancing the coverage of the proteome.

  • Utilize a range of techniques, including chemical synthesis, spectroscopy, and molecular biology, to prepare proteins and peptides from different samples for sequencing.

  • Optimize existing and develop new protein library preparation methods to ensure reproducibility, robustness, and scalability.

  • Analyze complex scientific data using statistical methods and software tools to make data-driven decisions, continually enhancing protocols and system performance.

  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to identify and develop new applications that enhance the platform's utility.

  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in proteomics and protein sequencing to support development efforts.

  • Maintain meticulous records of experiments, procedures, and results in full compliance with company standards, ensuring traceability and accuracy.

Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:

  • D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Proteomics, or a related discipline.

  • 5+ years’ postdoctoral/industry experience with protein purification, separation, and analysis using techniques such as liquid chromatography, electrophoresis, and gel free approaches.

  • Proficiency in working with protein extraction, purification and peptide preparation from different sample types (cell lysates, tissues, serum, and plasma).

  • Designing and implementing experimental strategies to enrich proteins, characterize proteins biochemically, with focus on PTMs (phosphorylation/glycosylation/acetylation), and protein-protein interactions.

  • Proven expertise in chemical synthesis, molecular biology, and bioanalytical techniques.

  • Strong analytical aptitude with expertise in data interpretation and statistical analysis.

  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to be flexible and move to different projects.

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):

  • Experience with mass spectrometry techniques used in bottom-up proteomics.

  • Developing protocols and assays for single molecule detection.
