Leidos Mechanical Engineer Intern in San Diego, California
Description
This is where your legacy begins! The Emerging Technologies Branch of the Leidos Innovations Center is currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer Intern to work in our San Diego, California office. We are seeking a broadly trained and highly motivated engineer for advanced technology research and development programs focused on developing and testing novel materials, prototype instrument development, integration, analysis, testing, and optimizations for a range of applications. This is a highly dynamic and integrative environment in which talented and creative employees can thrive working on a diverse array of multidisciplinary projects.
Primary Responsibilities.
Work effectively as a member of a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team consisting of biologists, chemists, mathematicians, statisticians, and engineers
Collaborate with engineers and scientists to automate laboratory processes using commercial and custom hardware in support of government-funded efforts for novel applications
Quickly adapt to evolving research needs, willingness to learn new techniques, and rapidly acquire new knowledge and stay informed on emerging technologies
Candidates should follow sound engineering practices, maintain effective documentation of activities and analyses, and be able to effectively communicate findings and reasoning with other team members
Basic Qualifications.
Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in an engineering discipline
U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
Team-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with people from diverse areas and disciplines
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment
Great work ethic and an enthusiasm for problem-solving and innovative thinking and the ability to approach and solve technical challenges
Strong organizational and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications.
One year of technical experience (technical experience obtained through schooling can be counted towards total years of experience)
Experience using engineering software tools like CAD and SolidWorks
Prior involvement in relevant design projects (through either coursework of extracurricular activities)
Existing experience developing and testing materials for structural and functional applications
Experience testing mechanical properties of materials
Experience with computer modeling and simulation
Possess US government Security Clearance

Pay Range:
Pay Range $46,800.00 - $84,600.00
