Qualcomm is on the lookout for an exceptional Principal Data Scientist to spearhead data-driven innovation and problem-solving across our business landscapes. This role demands a blend of expertise in data science and a deep understanding of the semiconductor industry, aiming to harness advanced data analytics, predictive modeling, and artificial intelligence to address complex business challenges. The successful candidate will be instrumental in transforming data into actionable insights, enhancing our product offerings, and driving strategic decisions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Forge strategic partnerships with cross-functional teams and business leaders to leverage data insights in product and program decision-making processes.

  • Utilize advanced data science techniques (e.g., Natural Language Processing, clustering, predictive analytics, regression analyses, survival analysis, segmentation, and experimentation) to propose enhancements and innovations to business processes.

  • Conduct sophisticated statistical analyses and maintain high reliability of machine learning pipelines in production environments, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.

  • Champion initiatives to enhance data quality, participate in data governance programs, and lead efforts in data enrichment and cleansing to uphold and improve data integrity.

  • Design and implement comprehensive data pipelines from inception to execution, collaborating with stakeholders to establish and adhere to data models, schemas, and structures that bolster business operations.

  • Develop and refine key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and data-driven products that translate complex datasets into actionable insights for business growth.

  • Influence executive and senior leadership to adopt a more data-centric approach in strategic decision-making.

  • Promote and evolve best practices in data science, advocating for continuous improvement and cross-team collaboration for knowledge sharing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Cognitive Science, Data Science/Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in data science projects, including but not limited to Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), model development and management, and advanced data handling techniques.

  • Proficient in programming languages and tools (Python, R, SQL, NoSQL, Spark).

  • Experienced in Data Management & Visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, QlikView).

  • Proficient with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).

  • Proven ability to learn and adapt to new technologies swiftly.

  • Demonstrated initiative, ownership mentality, and a growth-focused attitude.

  • Analytical mindset with a keen interest in the domain-specific challenges.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Data Science/Machine Learning, Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

  • Exceptional ability to learn quickly, work autonomously, and navigate fast-paced environments.

  • ArchiMate 3 Practitioner Certification

  • Superior communication skills, with the capability to engage in effective dialogues and presentations with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Expertise in advanced NLP techniques (e.g., BERT) and familiarity with generative AI models (e.g., LLaMa, Falcon).

  • Foundational knowledge in scripting with PERL and utilizing Regular Expressions (RegEx) for data parsing and manipulation.

  • Demonstrated leadership in driving use case development, documenting potential business impacts, and steering project directions.

  • Strong influencing skills to foster business adoption of data-driven initiatives and facilitate organizational change.

Education Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Cognitive Science, Data Science/Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field is required.

  • A PhD in the aforementioned fields is strongly preferred.

Pay range:

$180,000.00 - $270,000.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
