Controls Sytems Lead (PLC Tech)

Job Description

The Controls System Lead (CSL) will be responsible for supporting the fulfillment center operations, with a particular focus on maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying material handling controls systems equipment. This ensures the operational performance of various material handling equipment such as conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, and SCADA devices and programs. The CSL will also act as the first level escalation support for the Controls Specialist Technician (CST) teams and will also be responsible for monitoring MHE metrics and partnering with facilities/operations for system performance issues.

Hard Skills

  • Ability to identify, maintain, troubleshoot, and modify AB RS LOGIX 5000 PLC's and PLC components

  • HMI components control

  • network components control

  • Motor Controls maintenance and troubleshooting

  • Industrial electrical hands-on experience and troubleshooting

  • Ability to interpret and modify both mechanical and electrical drawings

  • SCADA systems and KPI's maintenance and utilization

  • PLC programming from scratch

  • Supporting a wide range of different conveyors and sortation systems

  • Experience with industrial robotics (system components and controls)

  • Experience with AR/AS (automated retrieval/automated storage) systems

  • Project management experience

  • Understanding concepts and messaging protocols within Warehouse Management System Software / warehouse control systems concepts

Job Type

This is a permanent position.

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in San Diego, California.

Work Environment

The new hire will initially spend two weeks at a nearby site or designated training location to complete training/onboarding. All accommodations for travel will be provided if the location is over 50 miles away. Following this, the CSL will be based out of the control room in our state-of-the-art distribution facility. They will be responsible for managing all control systems within the facility, including providing direction and supervision to three Controls Techs. The maintenance team is composed of about 15 Technicians (levels 1-3). There will be a requirement to work holidays at the end of the year, as our peak season runs from November through the end of the year. This position will also be on-call at times should any pressing issues arise at the facility.
