Do you love taking on big challenges that require exceptionally creative solutions? Do you deeply understand how an incredible camera experience should work? As part of our Camera Technologies group, you’ll help design the innovative technology that allows each generation of Apple products to produce photos even more incredible than the last. You’ll design and develop groundbreaking ideas for everything involved in our camera systems, from sensor to lens. You’ll collaborate with teams across Apple to research, design, develop, test, and qualify camera hardware for Apple products. Together, we’ll craft a magical photography experience that redefines what millions of customers can expect from their cameras. The Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for all research, design, development, test, and qualification of camera hardware for Apple products. This team is seeking an exceptional Camera Image Quality Engineer with responsibilities for ongoing evaluation, benchmarking and characterization of Apple camera products!
Key Qualifications
Deep understanding of image quality metrics and evaluation methodology
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
Strong Matlab programming skills on digital image processing, data analysis & visualization
Familiarity with camera components and functions
Understanding of camera ISP pipeline and 3A
Hand-on experience on prototyping algorithm for quantitative characterization of image quality
Experience with automation of data acquisition
Knowledge of megapixel CMOS image sensor technology, lens selection and qualification
Experience with camera systems in mobile products
Experience with objective camera bench testing and subjective image quality analysis
Description
-Work closely with x-functional team, support the entire development cycle of Apple cameras, from early prototype to product launch. -Lead image quality validation at component and system levels. -Accurately characterize and quantitatively assess camera performance and image quality. -Drive and contribute to refinement and improvement of camera design and process. -Develop image processing algorithm for image quality metrics. -Incubate new metrology for next-generation Apple products and support technology transfer from lab to production sites. -Deliver executive level presentations of results.
Education & Experience
BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
Additional Requirements
Experience in numerical simulation of optics & imaging using Matlab or alternative scientific computation tools
Hands-on experience in optics lab
Experience with deep learning for image segmentation, object recognition and abnormal detection
Experience in development of automated imaging/metrology system
Experience with Python/C/C++/Swift
Background in camera ISP tuning
10% travel to Cupertino, CA

- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $131,500.00 and $243,300.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
