The Assistant Vice President – Branding & Placemaking – Interiors shall be an integral part of the Company’s Development, Construction and Capital Improvements Services Division and work within a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. The AVP – Branding & Placemaking – Interiors shall be part of a team dedicated to carrying out the operating vision, committed to ensuring project quality, meeting approved budgets and scheduled deadlines, and exceeding the expectations of the Company’s tenants and stockholders. The AVP – Branding & Placemaking – Interiors shall be a self-directed and -motivated individual capable of resolving complex issues in a timely manner consistent with the Company’s goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Candidate will be responsible for the following primary areas:

  • Design Lead on Public Spaces and Interior Architecture – Candidate will assist Regional Directors and Chief Branding Officer in leading design for project interiors with emphasis on interior design, interior placemaking, wellness, fitness, hospitality, retail, life science spec suites, and various types of programming, as well as public outdoor spaces. Candidate will collaborate on interior spaces with Alexandria Architectural Lead for core and shell design, programming, master plan, and placemaking design for campuses in the Alexandria portfolio. Candidate will participate in project visioning, planning, tenant engagement, tenant surveys, construction oversight, FF&E selection, brand storytelling, wellness integration, art selection, etc. This area will include working closely with assigned Project Manager to select designers, vendors, contractors, etc. and spearhead design approval on projects from executive leadership.

  • Project Management Consultation – Candidate will assist the Construction Project Manager on the coordination of design and construction activities to include, but not be limited to, architect, contractor, branding, and consultant solicitation and selection; design and construction document review; shop drawing review; and construction management and administration. Candidate will be primarily focused on highly curated, highly styled interior and smaller public space projects (e.g., The Alexandria).

  • Amenities and Placemaking Consultation – Candidate will assist Regional Directors, Amenity Directors, and Chief Branding Officer through participation in visioning, planning, strategy, programming, activation, tenant surveys, and events at amenity centers; helping connect the regional placemaking needs to the project opportunities; and assisting with budget, tenant demographics, and scheduling. This candidate will work as a liaison between the construction team and the amenity team, helping champion our placemaking goals for our project deliveries.

  • Brand Advocacy – Candidate will assist Regional Directors and Chief Branding Officer in elevating and enhancing Alexandria’s brand story in the built environment. This Candidate must have a strong understanding of Alexandria’s mission and brand. Candidate will work as a mediator between design and architecture vendors and our project teams to help distill and polish our brand through thoughtful, human-centered, and strong brand- and mission- driven designs.

Candidate will engage in some of the following activities in connection with the primary areas of responsibility and involvement above:

  • Oversee consultant, design, and construction contracts and ensure the obligations of such contracts are satisfied.

  • Develop and manage project budgets and schedules in collaboration with the Project Manager. Complete projects in accordance with Company approved budgets and schedules.

  • Be involved in the collaboration, development, and presentation of ideas and design concepts to senior management.

  • Understand the Company’s obligations as detailed in its lease and work letter agreements for assigned projects.

  • Communicate and interact with the Company’s tenants, contractors, architects, consultants, and other project team members.

  • Oversee, manage, and direct outsourced development and design management consultant services and activities as the project requires.

  • Manage consultant and contractor payment applications, including review of invoices for conformance with contract documents.

  • Administer the collection of acceptable certificates of insurance, lien waivers, and other required project documents; process consultant and contractor payments; and maintain project files.

  • Prepare project status and performance reports.

  • Provide general support to other operating divisions of the Company, and participate in special projects, as needed and assigned.

  • Spearhead, develop, and lead brand-centered design and placemaking presentations on projects to executive leadership.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least 10 years of practical working experience in the interior design, architecture, or real estate industry, or related fields, with a demonstrated strong design and architecture background. Experience in a variety of typologies like hospitality, retail, office, life science and fitness, a plus.

  • Ability and desire to travel as necessary to meet project goals and objectives, a must.

  • Understanding and working experience with design and/or construction contract preparation, AIA document forms, construction payment applications, lien waiver review and preparation, certificates of insurance, and other construction-related documentation.

  • Strong verbal and written communications required, with demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to interact both internally with other Company members and externally with tenants, contractors, architects, consultants, and other project team members.

  • Experience managing, preparing, and presenting to C-suite executives.

  • Strong organizational skills and experience managing a wide range of project types, with a willingness to lead new areas and disciplines.

  • Computer proficiency with strong experience in Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and spreadsheet preparation and working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Must be tenacious, flexible, enthusiastic, optimistic, and excited to work in a fast- paced, self-starter environment.

  • Experience working with brand curation/narration and ability to speak to brand centric-concept drivers in their work.

  • The expected base salary range for this position is $180,000 USD to $210,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the consideration of many factors, which may include, but are not limited to: the individual’s knowledge, experience, education, qualifications, skills, job location, and the Company’s compensation practices.
