QualTex Laboratories (http://qualtexlabs.org/) , a subsidiary of BioBridge Global, is one of the largest independent non-profit testing laboratories in the United States for blood and plasma products. QualTex Laboratories is dedicated to supporting global public safety with the timely delivery of high-quality testing services for patients, donors and regulated biological products.

General Summary

Responsible for exceptions management using the appropriate LIS software to identify issues, mitigate risks, and increase customer satisfaction levels, business productivity, and efficiency.

Ensures that sample investigations related to exceptions are handled in a timely manner.

Communicates with staff and management about critical issues related to exceptions.

Maintain knowledge of all current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and records required to perform effectively.

Work with laboratory management to support operations by evaluating current processes and workflows.

Responsible for ensuring consistency in practices and procedures as outlined by the SOPs.

Maintain excellent communication with the Department and other Laboratory Services personnel regarding daily production and unexpected events to ensure proper actions are being taken.

Exhibits leadership and maintains knowledge of regulatory/quality requirements.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Tasks

Manage, and oversee designated activities for QualTex Laboratories:

  • Evaluate and facilitate process improvement projects to proactively optimize efficiencies, reduce non‐value added costs, increase customer satisfaction, mitigate operational risks, and meet strategic objectives.

  • Assist with identifying failure modes and risk management.

  • Perform routine data entry, analysis, and prepare reports that measure and monitor laboratory performance, utilizing LEAN and Six Sigma concepts.

  • Monitor performance data by gathering, collating, analyzing data, and producing statistical reports.

Competently perform all assigned departmental duties. May perform Pre‐Analytical tasks [receipt, qualification, and preparation of samples for testing] and highly complex testing on patients, donors, and/or biologic products.

Evaluate test results in an accurate and timely manner and recognize and report unusual test results. Operate equipment utilizing established protocols and within quality control limits.

Recognize equipment malfunctions and/or technical problems and take appropriate steps to resolve. Maintain strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Prepare and maintain reports/records and perform computer data entry.

Analyze quality control data and resolve deviations.

Assist with coordination of the overall activities of the department.

Monitor staff performance and assign workflow schedules as needed.

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on technical equipment.

Education

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work relative to the field of assignment. The required major is Applied Science or equivalent.

Licenses and/or CertificationsCategorical Certifications preferred

Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) preferred

Experience

Requires one or more years of laboratory experience.

Prefer two or more years of laboratory experience and using related Laboratory Information Systems. Prefer one or more years resolving testing discrepancies.

Knowledge

Must obtain a working knowledge of regulatory/quality requirements and perform within all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.

Must have a working knowledge of laboratory sciences and techniques.

Skills

Must demonstrate positive leadership skills.

Must maintain competency in laboratory skills for liquid and material handling.

Must be capable of evaluating, interpreting and reporting accurate/valid test results by current testing methodologies.

Must have strong computer skills.

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Abilities

Must be able to keep information confidential.

Must be able to work with interruptions, meet deadlines, and perform accurate laboratory testing.

Must be neat in appearance and well groomed.

Must be professional, detail oriented, self‐motivated, innovative, creative, assertive, organized, communicative, and have the ability to work independently.

Must perform well in repetitive work situations.

Must work well independently and as a team member as well as facilitate organizational team activities.

Working Environment

Works in a well‐lighted air conditioned and heated laboratory/department.

May be exposed to electrical, mechanical and chemical hazards and other conditions common to a laboratory environment.

May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and other conditions common to a clinical laboratory environment.

May have bodily exposure to refrigerator/freezer temperature, especially hands and face.

Will work extended hours during peak periods.

May be required to work any time of the day, evening or night during the week or weekend.
