Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving multiple design and/or building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Transportation Specialist I and II:Inspects current projects for proper use of personnel, equipment and materials, traffic control and quality of work completed.Inspects roadways and evaluates road conditions.Performs field reviews of construction projects to assist area engineers and project engineers in resolution of construction problems.Researches and evaluates data, interprets and analyzes results, prepares reports and recommends solutions to problems.Serves as program coordinator responsible for coordination of engineering/architectural projects from initiation to completion.Serves as technical member on transportation-related projects.Travels to districts and maintenance offices to perform site visits and monitor maintenance programs.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Serves as program coordinator responsible for coordination of advanced engineering/architectural projects from initiation to completion.
