USAA Data Security Advisor Senior in San Antonio, Texas

Why USAA?

Investigates, analyzes, and responds to security anomalies and events (e.g. suspicious behavior, attacks, and security breaches) within USAA’s environments using a variety of cyber defense tools to detect and respond to threats. Conducts vulnerability, security configuration, and/or penetration testing assessments of systems and networks. Identifies cyber threats, analyzes operational impacts, and communicates to appropriate stakeholders. Stays current with latest information security threats, exploits, trends, and intelligence.

The Opportunity

Tasks: Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role. Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled. Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities. Develops, publishes, maintains and/or interprets complex Sensitive Data Security governance requirements (e.g. policies and standards). Designs, develops, and optimizes repeatable methods and measurements for Sensitive Data Security and information risk management program. Performs and advises on Sensitive Data Security and information focused risk assessments of complex projects (e.g. newly established domain or system with limited to no structure or governance) and new technologies. Influences Sensitive Data Security and information risk management strategies; educates and consults with risk owners on best practices. Consults across the enterprise (advice, guidance, and assistance), on Sensitive Data Security risk; guides the strategic security direction of USAA technical projects and other initiatives. Recommends risk treatment options for technical projects and other initiatives. Responds both verbally and in writing to moderately complex inquiries and periodic exams from both internal control partners (e.g. legal, compliance, audit, risk) and external control partners (e.g. regulators, external auditors, third parties). Ensures process owners identify, develop and test Sensitive Data and Information Security controls for Sensitive Data risk mitigation effectiveness. Acts as an advisor on Sensitive Data focused standards, policies, processes, and procedures for the enterprise. May telecommute. (Ref: 20972.221.3)

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Administration, Information Systems/Management or related field followed by 6 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or in a computer related occupation. Position requires:

  • Experience working on the following data discovery/monitoring tools: IMPERVA, DLP Broadcom, StoredIQ;

  • Sensitive Data Security (for PII, PHI, PCI, PD, PI data);

  • Information Assurance;

  • Risk Management to include identification, assessments, mitigation, and developing program governance;

  • Control testing and internal auditing;

  • Design SQL statements for analysis based on sensitive data inventories;

  • RDBMS: SQL server, Oracle, Netezza, DB2, and UDB;

  • Knowledge security technologies, such as network security, database security, tokenization platforms, Data Leakage Prevention, Data

  • Leakage Protection, Database Monitoring, identity, or access management systems;

  • Archer GRC and IGC (information governance catalog); and

  • Knowledge of Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA), Data Management and Least Privilege Principles.
