Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Dietitian - Food and Nutrition you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and evaluating all phases of nutritional care for inpatients and outpatient Bariatric patients. Maintains high standards of nutritional care and coordinates the nutritional care with all caregivers in the Bariatric setting.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs nutritional assessment, evaluation and planning; calculates and records meal patterns and documents as per clinic protocol.
Develops and maintains nutritional care plans as per insurance criteria, physician’s orders and clinic protocol.
Provides positive, enthusiastic and constructive support of the patients in terms of their decision to pursue bariatric surgery.
Defers to physicians’ orders and dietary clinic protocol when counseling patients on pre-op and post-op dietary instruction.
Assists with providing nutritional support/information for patients in the support group setting.
Develops/gathers nutritional counseling material and provides in/out patient counseling for patients as per clinic protocol and physicians orders.
Additional Job Functions:
Interacts and confers with the multidisciplinary clinic team members including physicians, nurses and other dieticians to assess and implement the nutritional plan of care.
Conducts classes to educate patients on the pre-op and post-op diet expectations per physician’s orders and clinic protocol.
Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.
Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.
Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Job Dimensions:
Technical/Professional Knowledge Applies advanced-level knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards in addition to knowledge of appropriate regulations, standards, and guidelines as is relevant to the Bariatric clinic setting. Maintains professional credentials and continuing education as deemed necessary by hospital policy and professional standards of licensing and regulatory agencies.

Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics (KSAOs)
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor Degree in Food and Nutrition or related field
Completes competencies as defined by department/unit and/or clinical specialty area
Minimum License and Certificates Required:
License by the State of Texas or must obtain license within 4 months of hire.
Registered/Registered eligible with the American Dietetic Association Reporting
