Job Summary

As part of an upper-tier team, assists in administering Windows systems and the infrastructure supporting them to meet student, staff, and teaching needs in a thriving central campus hub. Experience & knowledge with specific Windows and Information Technology preferred qualifications (listed below) are helpful, but training and mentoring will be provided to help applicants develop more advanced skills and knowledge.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at Marriott Library if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.

For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception exists.

Responsibilities

Assists in administering configuration changes to student, staff, and faculty Windows client & server systems. Assists in deploying software to students and systems with AppsAnywhere, SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager), and occasional local installations. Resolves software or hardware issues, particularly advanced issues that have been escalated. Engages with assorted projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor based on knowledge, skill, and priority.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled in 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.

Preferences

Continuously demonstrated ability to troubleshoot the root cause of and resolve complex issues individually and through teamwork. Excellent knowledge of software deployment and systems management in a Microsoft ecosystem. We primarily use SCCM and Active Directory. Experience with scripting or software development. Powershell, python, C#, and more low-level languages (e.g. C, C++) are of particular interest, but any scripting or programming experience is helpful. Experience with technical support, training, presenting and creating documentation tailored to distinct audiences. Knowledge of hardware fundamentals is helpful. Knowledge of other operating systems such as GNU /Linux, macOS, iOS, and other aspects of multi-platform environments is helpful.

The applicant should possess the skills to effectively troubleshoot intricate issues and collaborate with our team to deploy robust, scalable, and long-lasting solutions.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to work proficiently both independently and within team environments. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for collaborating effectively with colleagues and the individuals we support.
