State of Utah - Jobs Traffic Data Analyst in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a skilled and analytical Traffic Data Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data analysis,traffic patterns,and/or transportation systems. The Traffic Data Analyst will be responsible for collecting,analyzing,and interpreting traffic data to support monthly and annual federal reporting requirements,transportation planning,and improve traffic data management strategies. Principal Duties 

  • *Data Collection and Management: *Collect traffic data from various traffic counting devices and sources. Maintain and update traffic databases, ensuring data accuracy and consistency meeting Federal Highway reporting requirements.
  • *Data Analysis and Interpretation: *Analyze Continuous Count Station (CCS) traffic data to identify patterns,trends,and anomalies. Assist in annual reporting and review of AADT calculations,traffic section locations,and other traffic statistics.
  • *Reporting and Visualization: *Develop and generate reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders. Present data-driven recommendations to support traffic management decisions and policy-making.
  • *Collaboration and Communication: *Work closely with field staff,team,leaders,city planners,transportation engineers,and other relevant stakeholders to provide traffic data. Provide technical support and insights during the development and implementation of traffic management solutions. Answer traffic data related questions for various government agencies as well as the general public.
  • *Quality Assurance and Improvement: *Ensure the quality and accuracy of traffic data and analysis. Continuously seek opportunities to improve data collection methods and analytical processes.
  • *Project Management: *Manage and coordinate traffic data analysis projects,ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project requirements.

The Ideal Candidate The qualified candidate for this position will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree,or higher,in data analytics,business administration,math,information science,or another related field OR equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience as a data analyst,traffic analyst,or a similar role with a focus on traffic and transportation data.
  • Experience with data analysis tools and software (e.g.,Excel,SQL,Python,R).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g.,Data Looker,Power BI) and statistical analysis software.
  • Ability to interpret complex data and present it in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with traffic management systems, transportation modeling, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Understanding of traffic flow theories,congestion management,and transportation planning.

Preferences Preference may be given to those with expertise or experience in the following:

  • Data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Google Looker Studio, and ArcGIS Online.
  • AI and machine learning integration and&nb sp;application.
  • Google Workspace environment.
  • UDOT data sets.
  • Knowledge of and experience with transportation and/or government.
  • Familiarity with ESRI's ArcGIS software and solutions.
  • Experience in working with geospatial data and tools for mapping and analysis.
  • Ability to integrate GIS functionalities into data engineering processes.

  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid of both in-office and remote work days after an initial training period. Remote work must be within Utah. Please note,a position's eligibility for remote work is establi hed by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.
  • Working Conditions - Risks found in the typical office setting,which is adequately lighted,heated and ventilated,e.g.,safe use of office equipment,avoiding trips and falls,observing fire regulations,etc. Typically,the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however,there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile,etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
