Job Summary

This position is responsible for supporting and assisting in the operation of the Surgical Knowledge Integration ( SKI ) Lab for surgical skills training at the University of Utah Orthopaedic Center ( UOC ).. The incumbent works with residents, fellows, attending surgeons and external vendors to assist with the set-up, completion and clean-up of events held within the lab. This position does not include any patient care.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Assist with lab events in support of residents, fellows, attending surgeons and external vendors.

  • Oversee set-up, support and clean-up of lab activities including anatomy training, surgical skills training, research projects, development of new surgical implants and instrumentation.

  • Work and coordinate with medical industry companies and representatives.

  • Receive and manage cadaveric specimen inventories.

  • Prepare cadaveric specimens for use during labs.

  • Set-up of equipment and instrumentation.

  • Clean-up and sanitization of the lab, equipment and instruments.

  • Inventory and re-stock supplies.

  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.

  • Other lab tasks and responsibilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Entry level position.

Preferred

  • Work experience in a medical setting or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

  • This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Preferences

  • Prior experience working in an operating room as Surgical Technician or similar role preferred.

  • Some formal entry level medical training and/or work experience in a health care setting desirable.

  • Entry level training and/or role derived knowledge of human anatomy.
