State of Utah - Jobs Structures Portfolio Manager in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a skilled and motivated person to successfully manage and coordinate the Bridge Programs and support the Bridge Management planning efforts as the Structures Portfolio Manager (Engineering Manager I). The Bridge Programs are Bridge Rehabilitation/Replacement Program,Bridge Preservation Program, Bridge Formula Program,and the Bridge Maintenance Program which are currently funded at a total of $131 million for the 2025 funding year.   Close coordination with Region Program Managers is necessary to align region projects with bridge needs.  Experience and knowledge about bridge planning,bridge inspection,state and federal funding sources,bridge design and construction is preferred.  Strong communication skills in both verbal and written are required. Principle Duties As the Structures Portfolio Manager,you will:

  • Track and manage the Bridge Programs.
  • Support bridge planning and participate in prioritizing bridge projects.
  • Coordinate with Regions regarding the Bridge Programs and projects, as well as Region Programs.
  • Serve as a liaison with other agencies and government entities as needed.
  • Participate in the selection of consulting engineers.
  • Support Grant pursuits and preparation.
  • Oversee and review the work of consulting engineers.

The Ideal Candidate The best candidate for this position:

  • Must be registered as a professional engineer (PE) in Utah.
  • Will have have at least 2 years of engineering experience following licensure as a PE.

Preferences Preference may be given to those with at least one of the following

  • Experience with bridge planning,estimating,load rating,in-service bridge inspection,or design
  • Experience managing large programmatic budgets
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering

  • evaluate information against a set of standards
  • make a decision or solve a problem by using logic to identify key facts,explore alternatives,and propose quality solutions

Supplemental Information Here is some information of which you should be aware:

  • Position may require travel throughout the state.  A valid driver's license is required.
  • Risks found in the typical office setting,which is adequately lighted,heated and ventilated,e.g.,safe use of office equipment,avoiding trips and falls,observing fire regulations,etc.
  • Typically,the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however,there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile,etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • Employee may perform field work,which will require the employee to work outside. This will require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment.
  • Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Group Leader.
