University of Utah Health Senior Disaster Recovery Architect in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

This position has primary responsibility to help create and maintain a Disaster Recovery (DR) services technology framework and architecture that will be leveraged in University of Utah and University of Utah Health initiatives. It is responsible for coordinating and directing DR information technology design project activities as well as providing technology direction in support of DR project and support teams. This includes providing technical and architectural expertise in support of DR computing and automation efforts, including the design of cloud platform environments. It works with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective DR information technology solutions. It will improve DR cloud adoption success throughout the organization. Analyzes business DR objectives and corresponding technology requirements to ensure that IT solutions will offer business DR resiliency and security and will be effectively integrated with current architectures. Offers consultative support regarding new technologies and system requirements. This position reports within the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) organization.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a Disaster Recovery (DR) Subject Matter Expert (SME) for end-to-end DR architecture, including cloud, hybrid cloud, on-prem, security, networking, provisioning, automation, management, and application and database workload placement.

  • Develops and maintains DR solution architectures for public, private, and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and other cloud services.

  • Develops and maintains decision tree DR frameworks to provide guidance on application recovery workloads and mapping to appropriate architectures (On-premises IaaS, Hybrid, and public cloud – IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).

  • Helps define optimal DR cloud design patterns and solutions for security, automation, scalability, high availability, and resiliency.

  • Explores and remains knowledgeable of current industry platforms, services, options, trends, and best practices.

  • Plans and participates in IT solution activities for DR programs and projects within the IT organization.

  • Ensures all information technology DR projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established policies and objectives.

  • Collaborates and maintains on DR standards and conceptual technical documentation to ensure efficient planning and execution.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of and experience with enterprise scale technologies.

  • Expertise with IT and Business Architecture concepts and best practices.

  • Practical knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation principles and features (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, containerization, orchestration, automation, elastic scalability, networking, etc.).

  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical architectures and solutions.

  • Practical knowledge of information technology services delivery techniques.

  • Practical knowledge of a broad range of information technology domains including: server virtualization, storage systems, application delivery systems, networking, security, software development, process automation, authentication and authorization systems.

  • Demonstrated success with IT transformation.

  • Ability to think and act both strategically and tactically.

  • Ability to organize issues and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with hard deadlines.

  • Must be a self-starter, be self-motivated, and able to effectively multi-task.

  • Strong oral and written communicator who can build cooperative relationships with people.

  • Results-oriented and skilled in decision making and problem solving and comfortable working in unstructured team environments.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems or related field, or equivalency.

  • Three (3) years of experience in IT solution design that spans multiple IT domains (e.g. data centers, servers, storage, networks).

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Certification and experience in applying an architectural framework (i.e. TOGAF, Gartner EA Method, Zachman Framework, etc...) and service management framework (e.g. ITIL).

  • Software Development and troubleshooting and problem solving.

  • Professional experience architecting/deploying/operating IT services with cloud infrastructure providers (e.g., Azure, GCP, AWS).

  • One or more relevant industry cloud certifications.

  • Experience working in a healthcare, research, or academic environment.
