Job Summary

The Section of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery / Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is accepting applications for a funded Research Fellowship/Research Associate at the University of Utah / Primary Children’s Hospital to begin August 1, 2024. Applicants are ideally surgical trainees in or completing an accredited ACGME program in the United States and who have a required or optional research year(s) within their surgical program or a gap before additional training. Foreign medical graduates who are planning a career within Congenital Heart Disease will also be considered. This is a two-year fully funded position for qualified residents/trainees interested in a career in cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery.

Responsibilities

The fellow/research associate will be responsible for conducting clinical research projects in conjunction with the members of the Section including retrospective reviews and large database studies. Our Section consists of four board certified and subspecialty certified pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons with a diverse and robust degree of interest in several research projects.

The fellow/research associate will have numerous important responsibilities in the day-to-day operations of our many pre-clinical and clinical studies. She/He will be assigned several primary projects under the mentorship of our faculty. Specific duties will include but not limited to collecting and organizing data and assisting in all facets of outcomes research for the division, sourcing and collecting references, database mining, data collection, publication and presentation of work.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be MD or PhD, preferably with 1-2 years of surgery training and some research background, that will help in the pre-clinical studies.

  • A minimum commitment of 2 years.
