Job Summary

Full-Time Registered Nurse – Pediatric General Surgery Clinic

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Pediatric General Surgery Clinic team. This full-time position offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, promoting a healthy work-life balance. This role requires no nights, weekends, or holidays.

The position primarily involves administrative duties, with a strong focus on phone communication, in addition to some hands-on patient care. As an RN, you will be the primary point of contact for families, addressing inquiries related to pre-operative and post-operative care, recovery, and triaging post-surgical concerns. You will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling a wide range of surgical cases, from routine procedures to more complex and urgent cases.

The RN works closely with the inpatient surgical/trauma team and other departments to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care. You will also manage and maintain multiple calendars for 13 surgeons. While the position is primarily based at our Salt Lake City location, there will be occasional coverage at our Lehi location to accommodate for sick/vacation time.

Our team consists of highly skilled surgeons and support staff, and we are looking for a candidate who demonstrates strong critical thinking skills, the ability to remain calm and competent under pressure, and excellent communication abilities. Ideal candidates should be self-motivated, adaptable to changing situations, and take pride in delivering high-quality care. A passion for working with children and the patience to support anxious or upset parents are essential. A good sense of humor is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, assesses, and diagnoses health concerns through phone triage, evaluating both actual and potential patient issues.

  • Assesses, plans, and implements interventions to address patient care challenges.

  • Develops and participates in educating patients, their families, and significant others about post-discharge care programs.

  • Provides guidance and direction to the healthcare team to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.

  • Delivers and oversees direct patient care in accordance with established nursing protocols and physicians’ orders.

  • Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precautions to initiate appropriate interventions during crisis situations.

  • Orients and educates new staff on nursing techniques and departmental procedures.

  • Attends and completes all required training sessions.

  • Supervises and mentors Medical Assistants (MAs) and front office staff.

  • Demonstrates the ability to remain calm and competent in high-stress situations.

  • Exhibits strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.

Preferred

Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ), Pediatric Advanced Life Support ( PALS ), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program ( NRP ) within one year of hire.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
