State of Utah - Jobs Home Management Instructor in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is seeking a motivated and skilled individual to fill the position of *Home Management Instructor *for the Division of Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired (DSBVI).  You will provide independent living skills training for adults who are blind with the goal of fostering self-sufficiency and employment. This position involves one-on-one and group training sessions. *Principal Duties *The Home Management Instructor  performs the following tasks: 

  • Provide one-on-one and group home management training,focusing on basic skills needed to independently manage a household including cooking,cleaning,laundry,organization skills,product identification strategies,financial management,shopping,apartment hunting,managing mail and other documents,braille/tactile marking options,use of various appliances,adaptive technology,and other skills useful in managing a home.
  • Assist in the development of curriculum for group and individual training goals.
  • Lead group discussions to promote self-confidence,self-reliance,and positive attitudes about blindness.
  • Attend staff meetings and client staffing as scheduled.
  • Cross-train with other staff to ensure quality services and provide substitutions when necessary.
  • Prepare monthly student reports and evaluations.
  • Coordinate and participate in monthly training center activities for students.
  • Conduct outreach presentations to organizations and community groups to recruit for rehabilitation programs.
  • Attend state conventions of the blind.
  • Help students achieve intermediate objectives and vocational goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

*The Ideal Applicant *The model applicant for this position is someone who has: 

  • Preference for bachelor s degree or higher in a related field (e.g.,vocational rehabilitation,psychology,sociology,social work,Teacher of the Visually Impaired).
  • Preference for experience in teaching adults who are blind or low vision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word,Outlook,Excel) and adaptive technologies for the blind.
  • Strong organizational,communication (verbal and written),and leadership skills.
  • Ability to assess,monitor,and evaluate needs and progress in services.
  • Enthusiastic with a positive outlook on life.
  • Ability to deliver presentations or training using effective methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of vocational training principles,theories,and practices.
  • Ability to follow applicable laws,rules,regulations,and policies.
