State of Utah - Jobs Electronic Technical Specialist II - Moa in MOAB, Utah

The Utah Department of Transportation is looking for a skilled and motivated person to fill our Electronic Technical Specialist II position in Moab or Green River,Utah.  This position is a journey-level Electronic Technical Specialist position that may require occasionally performing complex electronic tasks.  In this position,you will install,repair,and maintain the various electronic equipment UDOT uses to help with Keeping Utah Moving. Principal Duties As the Electronic Technical Specialist II,you will work in a laboratory and out in the field. While working in the field,you may experience adverse weather conditions and mechanical,electrical,and traffic hazards. You will perform electronic tasks including:  

  • Installation,maintenance,programming,and repair of traffic signal and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) systems including traffic signal cabinets,radar detection systems,school flashers,accessible pedestrian signals,CCTV Cameras,Driver Feedback Signs,Photo Voltaic Systems,Solar Controllers,Relays,battery back ups,Variable Messages Signs,two-way radios,wiring,conduit,etc.
  • Respond to reports of malfunctioning equipment and troubleshoot and repair equipment in the field.
  • Inspecting traffic signals,and ITS installations to verify compliance with applicable regulations,standards,and specifications.
  • Operating,maintaining,calibrating,and adjusting specialized equipment.
  • Maintaining accurate records and logs.
  • Driving and operating a bucket truck.
  • Be available to be on-call and work after hours (night and weekends) on a rotating basis.

The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate for this position is someone who:

  • Who is willing and able to report to either the* Moab Construction Office at 424 Kane Creek Blvd,Moab,Utah,or the *Green River Maintenance Shed at 435 East Main,Green River,Utah within a 30-minute response time.
  • Has at least two years of professional work experience or electronics education (or a combination of both).
  • Has International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level II certification. 
  • Has a working knowledge that includes a combination of the following:  electronics and electrical systems,traffic signals,and ITS technology and construction of both systems.
  • Is very comfortable and proficient using computers and computer systems.
  • Is willing and able to be on-call and work after hours regularly.

*Preferences *Preference may be given to applicants with at least one of the following:

  • Journeyman Electrician.
  • Associate's degree,or higher,in an electrical or electronic technology field.
  • IMSA level II or higher certification.
  • At least four years related education and experience (combined).

Underfill This position may be filled as an *Electronic Technical Specialist I *for applicants with less than two years of electrical experience/education and those without an IMSA Level II certification. In order to qualify for the underfill,the candidate will have:

  • The IMSA Level I certification or ability to obtain within one year after hire AND obtain the IMSA Level II within two years.  Certification and training provided by UDOT.  
  • Must be very comfortable and proficient using computers and computer systems.
  • You must  complete and pass the UDOT Traffic Signal and ITS Training Course within six months of hire.

The salary range for the* Electronic Technical Specialist II is $22.11 - $37.02.*  The salary range for the Electronic Technical Specialist I *is $19.86 - $33.23. Starting wage for this level is $25.42. Supplemental Information Additional information of which you should be aware:*

  • This position is required to be on-call on a rotating schedule.
  • This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug and alcohol tes ing of employees after hire. Please note:  job offers to those who are not currently on the random drug list may be conditional pending drug test results. 
  • Working Conditions:  Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations,e.g.,working at great heights of 50 or more feet,working in extreme outdoor weather conditions,etc. Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equ ipment,e.g.,working around operating machines,working with power voltages up to 600V or hazardous chemicals,near live traffic,etc.
  • Physical Requirements:  Work requires physical exertion.  May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend,crouch,stoop,stretch,reach,lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time,crouching,or crawling in restricted areas.
  • Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
