The Department of Human Genetics at the University of Utah School of Medicine seeks a visionary, innovative, and collaborative leader for the world-renowned Genetic Science Learning Center (GSLC). The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for developing unique, varied learning experiences for students, educators, patients, and the public that are engaging and informative, as well as culturally appropriate for members of diverse and underrepresented communities. They will be skilled in leading a multi-disciplinary team, in managing multiple concurrent projects and budgets, and in collaborating with colleagues across disciplines. This candidate will bring expertise in conducting rigorous studies on the efficacy of educational materials and programs in formal, informal, community and/or patient settings and in publishing the outcomes of their work. A strong track record of extramural, education-focused funding is essential. Applicants should have at least one life science degree (MS, PhD, and/or MD).The GSLCs mission is making science and health easy for everyone to understand. It is best known for its Learn.Genetics and Teach.Genetics websites, which constitute the most highly used online life science education resource in the world. Its staff of 20 comprises a synergistic, in-house development, production, research, teacher professional development, and community engagement team. In addition to its own grant-funded projects, the GSLC collaborates with faculty across the University and at other institutions to develop and study educational materials and programs that address all areas of life science, a broad range of other fields, and health, including interventions that are tested in clinical trials, patient education and clinical trials recruitment materials.The Department of Human Genetics values equity and inclusivity; we seek faculty who share these values.
