Job Summary
The Senior Director of Finance and Operations directs and supervises operations and strategic planning of accounting and financial functions including working with leadership and management on individual budgets and the overall UCL strategic budget. This position, as a member of the UCL leadership team, serves as the departmental liaison with the University Budget Office and oversees multiple teams including finance, site operations, registration & information. The position acts as a catalyst between university colleges and departments to ensure financial continuity and quality of service.
Responsibilities
Works in collaboration with the UCL leadership team to set financial budgets for UCL departments and programs.
As part of the leadership team, assists with setting UCL short and long term financial and strategic goals.
Works closely with program directors to identify opportunities to maintain and improve financial sustainability and evaluate program effectiveness.
Provides expert advice on revenue streams including appropriated, earned, donated funds, etc. and provides required reporting.
Develops and implements policies and works closely with HR team, and others as appropriate, as it relates to accounting and finance functions including (but not limited to) general accounting, salary and payroll, cost accounting, and budget formulation.
Estimates budgetary requirements for special projects and oversees purchases and inventory.
Prepares new program budgets and pro formas, monitors dashboards and systems, prepares ongoing and special financial reports, and makes improvement suggestions based on data.
Participates in the development and interpretation of UCL policies to ensure compliance with the U’s policies and regulatory requirements. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations.
Responsible for recruitment and management of staff including setting objectives, managing performance, and motivating staff.
Develops and implements operations and processes for the Registration & Information team including customer service, financial transactions, and other duties.
Designs and delivers informal and formal training to UCL to reinforce policy and ensure effective use of budgeting to meet unit goals.
In collaboration with the leadership team, authorizes the purchase and implementation of new technology, resources, and equipment.
Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships with counterparts on campus, central administration, the community, and other institutions.
Liaise with HR personnel on payroll and other financial-related activities.
Other financial, operational, and management duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration or related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration or related area preferred.
