Job Summary

The Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action ( OEO /AA) is responsible for overseeing the University’s compliance with University Policy and various state and federal regulations related to discrimination and sexual misconduct. The OEO /AA is a resource for students, staff, faculty and other University community members who wish to report and address issues of discrimination and/or sexual misconduct.

This position reports to the Supportive Measures Manager in the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action ( OEO /AA) and is primarily responsible providing intake services and initial responses to reports of discrimination, sexual misconduct, and retaliation in accordance with established criteria. This primary responsibility for this position is to triage reports of alleged discrimination, sexual misconduct, and retaliation, and provide information and education about supportive measures, the OEO /AA grievance process, and rights and responsibilities under the University’s Nondiscrimination Policy.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Be familiar with University nondiscrimination policies and associated laws and serve as a resource to students, staff, faculty, and community members seeking information related to the University’s discrimination and sexual misconduct policies.

2.Responsible for intake, outreach, referral, and communication in response to reports of discrimination and sexual misconduct; communicating with parties, witnesses, third party reporters, and other impacted individuals regarding campus and community resources; assisting individuals in understanding options for addressing issues of discrimination and sexual misconduct including reporting crimes to law enforcement; implementing and/or coordinating supportive measures for complainants and respondents; document intake and responses in compliance with university policies and procedures.

  1. Must be able to efficiently manage a high volume of work, including phone calls, emails, meetings as part of the intake process while providing strong attention to detail.

  2. Must be able to deliver services in a trauma-informed manner to a diverse university population consisting of students, staff, faculty, patients, providers, visitors, and others.

  3. Must be able to exercise professional judgment, respect confidentiality of sensitive records, and maintain professionalism and neutrality.

  4. Must be able to clearly, concisely, accurately, and effectively communicate information in both written and verbal form.

  5. Must be able to work collaboratively with other OEO Staff, campus resources and offices, and with external community resources. Includes attending OEO /AA staff meetings and other meetings with OEO /AA partner offices.

  6. Identifies and implements improvements to the intake process under the supervision of OEO /AA management.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalency) in a related field plus one year directly related experience or equivalency. Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze and make decisions related to program content. Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience. (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience.)

Preferences

Preference may be given to those with a Master’s degree in counseling, social work, student affairs, higher education, law or related field.

Preference may be given to those with experience working in the areas of civil rights compliance, student conduct, human resources, or a similar field; experience with trauma-informed support services, conducting investigations or supporting individuals who have experienced sexual violence or civil rights issues; advancing compliance with government regulations that pertain to students, faculty and university staff, including Title IX, Clery Act, Title VI, Title VII , Section 504, ADA and other civil rights laws and regulations.

Preference may be given to individuals who are bilingual (fluent in both written and spoken languages) in addition to English.
