full-time Chief People Officer needed for a Salt Lake City library. 

Salary:  $107,182 - $133,972 annually

About the Position

We are seeking a dynamic, visionary Chief People Officer to join the City Library at a pivotal moment in our growth. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer/Library Director and as a member of our executive team, this newly created role will foster a thriving organizational culture, enhance our organizational culture, and drive our overall effectiveness.  The Chief People Officer will play a pivotal role in providing leadership and direction in the areas of talent strategy, change management, organizational and performance management, staff training and development, compensation, and culture in accordance with policies, annual plans and strategic plans established by the library. The Chief People Officer will collaborate cross-functionally and play a key role in aligning our people strategy with our organization's short and long-term strategic initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an effective People strategy that aligns with the library's goals.

  • Work closely with the executive team to develop and implement people goals that support the library's strategic plan and mission

  • Assess the current state of our core HR functions and processes, and develop a roadmap for the library to become a best-in-class People organization within the next 3-5 years. 

  • Strategize, plan and direct the activities of the People and Culture division including staff recruitment and selection, compensation, leave management, staff training, leadership team development, employee relations and internal communication, performance management, succession planning, recognition, employee engagement and culture. 

  • Develop and recommend a compensation and benefits plan design that reflects the ability to ensure internal equity and external market competitiveness; develop library compensation philosophy, policies and best practices.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture. Build and maintain strong relationships with employees at all levels, acting as a trusted advisor and resource.

  • Develop and implement short and long-term people goals and metrics aligned to the library's strategic priorities.

  • Responsible for translating high-level vision and strategies to execution by all library staff, including the CEO/Library Director, Executive Team, People and Culture team, managers.

  • Champions the library's strategic goals and initiatives with the library's mission and core values in mind.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Organizational Development or a related field.

  • Minimum of six (6) years of directly related experience in human resource management, organizational development or a related field where comparable experience may be obtained.

  • Three (3) years' supervisory experience.

  • Ability to serve as a strategic thought partner to other executive team members.

  • Experience working with local, state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Ability to design, build and roll out people-related projects and change management.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including experience with mentoring and guiding staff to ensure people and teams are effectively delivering and improving services. Skilled at creating a healthy and positive work environment where open communication and collaboration thrive.

  • Proven ability to work with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

  • Ability to assess, recommend, and implement im proved policies, processes and procedures relating to departmental oversight.

  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, other managers, community members, and the public.

  • Expertise in mediating and resolving conflicts, with a focus on crea ing an inclusive and harmonious work environment.

  • Experience in crafting and enforcing policies that promote fair treatment and prevent discrimination and bias in the workplace.

  • Cultural Competence: Demonstrated ability to understand, appreciate, and interact effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Organizational Development or a related field.

  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, SHRM-CP, PHR

  • Understanding of government, nonprofit, and public library sectors.

Working Environment:
  • Work is performed in an office environment.

  • Normal stress related to working in a busy, public institution.

  • Subject to sitting for extended periods of time.

Schedule:
  • Monday through Friday
Travel:

Some travel may be required.
