The Impact & Prosperity Center at the University of Utah is the first of its kind residential community dedicated to impact and prosperity, an interdisciplinary approach that combines business, economics, and policy to turn ambitious ideas into tangible realities. The Epicenter offers unparalleled programming that draws on the collective expertise and passion of students, thought leaders, and practitioners to empower the next generation of changemakers. Position Description

The Associate Director for Operations and Logistics will be primarily responsible for providing a high-quality living experience for the student residents of the Impact and Prosperity Epicenter while maintaining high operational excellence, a well-maintained building, and strong financial performance. This position will oversee all operational areas of the Epicenter including the front desk, events and catering, housekeeping, security and maintenance as well as other important functions such as marketing and sales, finances, and programming. The Associate Director reports to the Epicenter executive team. Responsibilities are focused on the development of an environment that supports the academic and social experience of student residents, visitors, and other stakeholders while ensuring resources within the building are efficiently managed. Strong preference will be given toward candidates that have previous experience in high quality operational and hospitality environments.

On campus housing may be available to candidate as part of the hiring package.

Responsibilities

Operational Excellence

  • Leadership and Team Development

o Oversee front desk, marketing, and sales teams, fostering a culture of operational excellence and guest-centered service.

o Ensure team productivity and support professional growth by supervising recruitment, onboarding, and continuous training of staff.

o Conduct routine meetings with department leads to ensure alignment with operational goals and high standards.

  • Facility Management and Coordination

o Manage day-to-day operations of the Epicenter, prioritizing resident and guest satisfaction in all aspects of property management.

o Act as a liaison with Housing and Residential Education, IT, Facilities and Maintenance, and Security teams to ensure cohesive, efficient operations.

o Guide the housing application process, resident selection, facility tours, room assignments, and all coordination related to resident transitions and services.

o Establish and uphold policies and procedures to maintain quality and consistency.

  • Communication and Reporting

o Provide regular updates to the Epicenter Executive Team, sharing insights on key metrics, maintenance reports, resident incidents, inspection outcomes, and occupancy rates.

o Address and resolve resident concerns, proactively identifying solutions to building-related issues.

  • Safety and Maintenance Oversight

o Cultivate a culture of safety among residents and implement protocols to support adherence to university policies.

o Coordinate residence safety inspections and establish emergency procedures.

o Work with maintenance teams to address facility needs, ensuring a well-maintained, safe living environment.

Financial Management

  • Budgeting and Financial Oversight

o Manage the Epicenter’s P&L, developing a sustainable operating budget and tracking financial performance.

o Provide the Epicenter Executive Team with periodic financial reports and optimize expenses through targeted budget management.

o Strategize ways to maximize occupancy rates, including year-round revenue opportunities to strengthen the financial health of the property.

Resident and Guest Experience

  • Student-Centered Culture

o Foster a supportive, student-centric environment that enhances both the academic and social experience of residents.

  • Program Implementation and Engagement

o Oversee the implementation of resident programming and events as directed by the Epicenter Executive Team. Ensure activities align with educational, cultural, wellness, and social goals to create a well-rounded experience for residents and guests.

o Ensure consistent delivery of services, programming, and activities that meet the Epicenter’s objectives and the needs of students, staff, and partners.

  • Community Building and Accessibility

o Promote a welcoming and engaging environment that supports students’ social and academic growth.

o Be a visible and approachable presence, regularly interacting with residents and guests to build rapport and enhance the community experience.

o Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to create meaningful programming and activities.

o Weave programming elements throughout the residential experience to help resident students connect with the Sorenson Impact Institute and the Business Health and Prosperity Center

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the operational, financial, and experiential goals of the Epicenter and its community of residents and guests.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
