The Department of Occupational and Recreational Therapies at the University of Utah invites applications for a Tenure Track Recreational Therapy faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank. We are seeking a faculty member with a Ph.D. and an established line of research, or promising potential for developing such a line, in any area of recreational therapy or related to recreational therapy practice, that has promise for external research funding. This faculty member will contribute to the advancement of the Recreational Therapy degree programs with expertise that will complement and expand our philosophy and mission of teaching, scholarship and service to the university, community, and profession.The applicant will join a group of dynamic recreational and occupational therapy faculty with diverse teaching and research interests, and numerous research and teaching interdisciplinary collaborations across the University of Utah campus, including Health Sciences. In addition, we have strong partnerships with the states health care agencies, community organizations, and the departments Life Skills Clinic, all of which provide opportunities for clinical education placements, community-engaged learning, and research. In addition to the Universitys academic medical center, there are four other major medical centers that provide unique opportunities for student placement, collaboration, practice, and research.The Department offers a bachelors degree in Recreational Therapy accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)/Committee on Accreditation of Recreational Therapy Education (CARTE), and a Master of Science in Recreational Therapy. These degrees prepare students to be eligible to take the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) exam. The department also offers an accredited Master of Occupational Therapy program and a post-professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate program. Department faculty participate in the Rehabilitation Science Ph.D. program in order to prepare the next generation of rehabilitation scientists, and Ph.D. students from both the occupational therapy and recreational therapy professions are currently enrolled. All academic programs have a national reputation for successfully preparing future educators and practitioners to work in traditional, non-traditional, and emerging practice areas.The University of Utah is the states oldest and largest institution of higher education, offering over 100 undergraduate and more than 90 graduate degree programs to over 28,000 students. Opportunities to enjoy professional and collegiate sports, including basketball, football, baseball, hockey, gymnastics, and soccer are also abundant.Position Available: Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Recreational Therapy in the Department of Occupational and Recreational Therapies, College of Health. The position is a full-time 9-month position starting July 1, 2024.Qualifications: The applicant should have a Ph.D. (ABD considered). The applicant must have active CTRS credentials and must be eligible for a State of Utah Therapeutic Recreation Specialist license. Candidates should demonstrate a record of research with established externally-funded research program or promising potential to establish an externally-funded research program. Experience teaching entry-level and masters level recreational therapy students is preferred. The candidate will also demonstrate a history of personal commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in healthcare and health related professions with an understanding of how personal backgrounds and identities contribute to that effort within the context of an academic position.
