SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE Assistant Professor Biology - Anatomy in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Department of Biology at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) seeks to hire a student-centered and collaborative faculty member, skilled in the scholarship of teaching and learning, who embraces the distinct mission of community colleges and the needs of students at open-access institutions. The successful candidate will join an active and innovative department whose members engage in evidence-based instructional practices.

The successful candidate will prepare and teach multiple college-level biology courses for majors which may include Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Cadaver Dissection, First-Year General Biology, Microbiology, Ecology, and/ or organismal courses as well as other lecture and lab courses as assigned. Faculty members may be assigned to any SLCC location and may be assigned alternative work schedules (e.g. evenings). All faculty are expected to teach classes in accordance with established guidelines (e.g. Faculty Handbook) and policies (e.g. Academic Freedom, Professional Responsibility and Tenure Policy -- Ref#C4S01.01), to conduct other instructional activities including curriculum development, to participate in professional activities such as scholarly study and/or research, and college and departmental service.

 

Responsibilities & Duties:

- - Effectively prepare and teach college biology courses, associated labs, and other courses as assigned - Maintain regularly scheduled office/consultation hours. Advise students on program and/or course requirements. - Assess and maintain student performance records. - Participate in program and course curriculum development, revisions, and assessment as both a course lead and as a department colleague. - Pursue professional development activities and demonstrate a depth of understanding in the field as well as the ability to teach Biology courses. - Serve on Department, School, and/or College committees as needed to assist in policy development, curriculum development, textbook reveiws, procedures, or other matters that benefit the Department, School or College. - Maintain a supportive attitude toward work, students, colleagues and administration. Demonstrate and support professional commitment to Department and College mission and Values. - Attend New Faculty Orientation sessions as required. - Accept other duties as assigned.

 

All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences.

All SLCC employees must maintain permanent residence/address within the State of Utah to maintain employment. A permanent Utah address must be recorded to Human Resources within 30-days of your employment start date.
