The Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind (USDB) invites you to consider a challenging and gratifying employment opportunity with our school.  We are seeking a dynamic and visionary individual to join our team as a technician for the Accessible Learning Materials Center (ALMC) located in Ogden.   The ALMC Technician will work collaboratively with other ALMC team members under the direction of the ALMC Head Maker and Assistive Technology Team Department Head.  The technician will serve a variety of roles in the ALMC in creating and designing products.  The technician will manage online fulfillment processes,daily shipping,client communication,machine calibration,3D rendering and printing,and shop organization and management. Principal Duties

As an ALMC Technician you will:

  • Order fulfillment on monday.com

  • Product design and reproduction

  • Shop management and organization

  • Tactile graphic creation

  • 3D print calibration and machine maintenance when needed

  • Calibrate and manage laser cutting machine on occasion

  • Assemble low tech devices involving PVC pipe and fittings

  • Daily packaging and sending materials and subsequent status marking in software

  • Occasional social media content creation

  • Clerical or organizational tasks as needed to keep the shop tidy and organized

The Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Ability to download,manipulate,and print STL files
  • Familiarity with Windows based programs
  • Familiarity with 3D model rendering: On Shape,Fusion 360,TinkerCad,Blender
  • Rehabilitative engineering background
  • Experience with visually impaired students both academic and multiply disabled
  • Understanding and experience with low vision aids; both apps and devices
  • Know Braille (Grade 1 at least)
  • Reliable communicator/Team Player
  • Open minded to others' ideas and suggestions
  • Ability to receive feedback and adjust if necessary
  • Can take feedback and improve
  • Critical Thinking
  • Detail oriented self starter-Expected to take product orders and fulfill them efficiently 
  • Creative solution based thinking as it relates to physical disabilities and visual impairments
  • Ability to take an idea and come up with several workable solutions in a short amount of time
  • Independent work ethic
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check

  • Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

    • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.

    • Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. 

      • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))

      • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.  

    • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

  • Paid Time Off:

    • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual,4 hours sick).

    • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service. 

    • We have 12 paid holidays.
