Volt Senior Engineer Fuel Handling Systems in Saint Paul, Minnesota

Volt is immediately hiring a Remote-Engineering Process Engineer with a client located in Bellevue, Washington. Our client is a world leader in new nuclear technologies for hybrid energy and medical applications. Candidates must have extensive experience in equipment design and qualification. Experience in equipment operation, maintenance, and fabrication is also valued. The Senior Fuel Handling Design Engineer will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation advanced nuclear reactors and associated fuel handling equipment As a Senior Fuel Handling Systems Engineer you will:

  • Design of nuclear fuel handling systems and equipment from requirements through final design.
  • Support fabrication, construction, and testing of systems and equipment.
  • Develop system and equipment design products such requirements, system design descriptions, interface control documents, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and calculations.
  • Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant systems such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, ASHRAE, IEEE, NFPA, and regulatory requirements.
  • Interface with design disciplines (such as mechanical, instrumentation and controls, civil, and nuclear) to identify and develop plant design information and specify system design and performance criteria.
  • Document design engineering work through technical writing of system design descriptions, equipment design specifications, design reports, trade studies, and calculations/analyses.
  • Review and assess technical merit of solutions provided by team members and subcontractors by participating in design reviews.
  • Propose and initiate testing programs and provide support and oversight during test execution, evaluation of test results, and reporting of test results.
  • Interface with and support licensing activities associated with Safety Analysis Reports.

This is a full-time contingent role. The Ideal candidate will have:

  • Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or System Engineering preferred. Other engineering disciplines such as Industrial or Nuclear may be considered if the candidate has relevant experience. M.S. and Doctorate degrees may be credited for up to two and four years of experience respectively.
  • A minimum of three years of system and/or process design is required
  • Prior experience in the nuclear industry with nuclear fuel handling systems is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week.
  • The successful candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and lead a design team's effort with minimal direction to solve challenging problems.
  • The successful candidate must possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
