The Forensic Lab Team Lead is responsible for testing specimens, analyzing results, and coordinating workflow to ensure established turnaround times are met. This position will support all three areas of the Forensic lab: Extractions, Screens and Instruments.

Work Schedule :

Tuesday to Saturday 3:00pm -11:30pm

OR

Wednesday-Saturday 3:00pm-1:30am.

Some flexibility in schedule is possible

Some overtime is required

Job Responsibilities

  • Promote a positive environment of teamwork

  • Actively enforce operational goals, policies, and procedures

  • Support increased communication with other departments and across the organization

  • Assist with training and development, provide timely and constructive feedback. Help develop training manuals and other educational materials. Maintain training documents.

  • Monitor pending lists and delegate work to employees; adjust daily assigned tasks as necessary

  • Provide ETAs on status checks for specimen management team

  • Monitor laboratory QA checks for various functions within the laboratory

  • Assist with special projects as assigned by supervisor or manager

  • Reviewing, revising and implementing SOP’s

  • Act as the designated point person in the absence of Supervisor, Manager or Director

  • Assist with validation work and special projects as assigned by Supervisor/Manager

  • Receive urine, oral fluid, and blood specimens for testing; evaluate specimens and test orders; determine priority of work and batches to maintain acceptable turn-around-time

  • Evaluate raw and final data for accuracy; recognize and correct errors and unusual results; interpret results to produce a final report

  • Work with GC, GC/MS, HPLC, LC/MSMS instruments

  • Work with immunoassays including ELISA; interpret data and test results

  • Pipetting and extracting urine, oral fluid, and blood samples to be analyzed using various extraction techniques

  • May pipette standard calibration lines and assist with daily start up tasks

  • Recognize unacceptable and unusual specimens and handle appropriately

  • Use quality control samples and proficiency samples

  • Follow quality control rules; monitor controls for error detection and take corrective action; maintain laboratory records, maintenance logs, quality control charts, reagent and standard logs, and worksheets

  • Maintain, calibrate, and clean laboratory equipment; perform scheduled and as needed maintenance and critical function checks recognizing significant changes in instrument function; troubleshoot as indicated

  • Perform all duties according to standard operating procedures and/or supervisor instruction

  • Maintain a fully operational understanding of chain of custody processes within the lab

  • Deliver quality patient care in the form of diagnostic and occupational testing while maintaining efficiency

  • Perform preventative maintenance and quality control with appropriate documentation

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology

  • 5+ years of Laboratory Technologist experience

  • Experience in at least two areas of the lab (Extractions, Screens, and/or Instrumentation [GCMS/GC/LCMS/HPLC]) or expertise in one of the areas preferred

  • Demonstrated strong performance in current or previous positions

  • Strong interpersonal communication and listening skills; ability to communicate in an effective and timely manner

  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage time

  • Proven ability to lead by example

  • Excellent problem resolution skills

  • Work effectively in a fast paced production environment to meet established turnaround times

  • Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills

  • Able to work independently within a team under general supervision

  • Color blindness testing required

  • Some overtime required
