Akima Grounds Laborer in Saint Louis, Missouri
The Grounds Maintenance Laborer is responsible for maintaining attractive grounds areas; protecting against erosion; maintaining grounds for assemblies and/or recreational activities, and ensuring assignments are completed in a safe, proper, and timely manner. A grounds laborer will additionally be responsible for the hardscape areas of the facilities. Parking lots, roadways, sidewalks, and concrete slabs. These areas need to be kept clean, sealed, level, and free of tripping hazards.
This position requires that the employee must successfully complete criminal history information background check and drug screening and be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
Responsibilities
Performs general grounds labor using walk behind blowers or handheld blowers. Use hedge trimmers, clippers and edging tools to keep vegetation from encroaching onto the roads and sidewalks. Use other hand tools to shovel, scrape, clean and maintain the hardscapes.
Pick up of leaves, branches, chippings, and other landscaped generated organic matter. Removing snow from walks, driveways, roads, or parking lots, using shovel and snow blower, spreads salt on walkways and other areas as needed until the outside contractor for snow removal can arrive on site.
Assist with parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping, and maintenance as needed.
Cleans landscaped areas and related items (e.g., storm drains, litter, etc.) for the purpose of preventing flooding and removing hazards.
Performs work at heights using an extension ladder, hydraulic lift, or scaffolding for the purpose of completing projects at heights not able to be reached when standing on the ground.
Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns (e.g., downed trees, limbs, fences, etc.).
Maintains tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe, operating conditions. Transports various items (e.g., tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
Have a working knowledge of and implement the environmental, safety, and occupational health requirements applicable to these job duties.
Perform all other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of one year of experience with landscape maintenance, including push and commercial street sweepers, power brooms or sweepers, trimmers, edgers, snow removal equipment, and salt spreaders.
