The Registered Echocardiogram Technologist demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant.  This individual is responsible for producing high quality echocardiograms, assisting with stress testing procedures, and performing vascular testing as required by the department.  This person also operates several different types of machines and computers; provides a safe and comfortable environment for patients; communicates effectively with physicians about testing procedures, views obtained, other views the physician may require, or any problems with testing procedure.

Responsibilities:

Has clinical and social contact with patients, primarily adult, and is able to appropriately assess, care for and treat them according to the guidelines as defined by Covenant HealthCare. Demonstrates excellent customer service. Perform other vascular testing as required. Performs two-dimensional echocardiograms with all views requested by physicians Performs color flow and Doppler as routine extensions of the echocardiogram unless instructed differently by the physician Performs stress echo testing and pharmacological stress echo testing Confers with physician about abnormalities found during testing procedures Completes all paperwork and billing required on all testing procedures for charts, files and physicians Keeps all equipment and patient rooms clean Responsible for continuous quality improvements in the routine functions of the lab Troubleshoots machines to resolve technical problems and/or calls for service when needed Works as a team with coworkers in Quality Assurance issues and accreditation requirements Checks patient charts for physician orders, notes and/or other pertinent information or instructions Correlates the clinical history with the examination being performed Obtains adequate CEU credits to maintain licensure Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures, administers BLS as needed Secures and maintains adequate supplies for service; cleans and prepares instruments Performs other duties as assigned

Other information:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE High School diploma or equivalent Registered Echocardiogram Technologist Evidence of Continuing Education BLS Healthcare Provider Two to three years of clinical echocardiogram experience Vascular ultrasound experience preferred but not required

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Well versed in anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. Documented evidence of education based on observation, hands-on experience and/or didactic instruction in echocardiography. Time management and organizational skills.  Self directed. Ability to make quality, independent decisions.  Analytical and strong problem solving skills. Ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions. Basic computer/typing skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs. Frequent walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, twisting, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, visual accommodation, color vision and field of vision Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
