You will be joining a team of enterprise technology analysts working in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment dedicated to deploy and support leading edge technologies.

The Real- Time Applications team are technologist for SMUD's ADMS, DERMS, OMS and field mobility systems as well as their related projects This Senior Technology Analyst position is responsible for design, configuration, and operational support, in addition to providing guidance to the technical teams that support those systems to ensure the stable, secure and performant operation of those systems. Specifically, this position serves as the technical lead for the OSII DERMS platform and will provide oversight to the DERMS Project phases at SMUD.

This is an on-site position.

This posting intends to fill one (1) regular full-time position, and establish an eligibility list which may be used to fill future limited term or regular full-time vacancies over the next two (2) years.

Purpose

Provides advanced specialized business process and technical support utilizing SMUD’s various enterprise and other integrated technology solutions in the areas of design, configuration, operation, maintenance, and enhancement; serves as a key functional resource to the user community to ensure reliability, accessibility and effectively meet the needs of the business unit overall; serves in a lead role in one or more specialty areas on a regular basis.

Nature and Scope

This is the senior level within the Enterprise Technology Analyst class series. This class is distinguished from the journey level Enterprise Technology Analyst by the higher level of complexity, difficulty and level of tasks assigned, broader decision-making authority, advanced technical knowledge required, short and long-term planning responsibility, major project management responsibility and demonstrated mastery in two or more specialty areas. The Senior Enterprise Technology Analyst often is relied upon to be the lead person in a given specialty area and will demonstrate a good working knowledge regarding enterprise application systems. Advancement to the Principal Enterprise Technology Analyst level is done through a competitive process.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs and configures various enterprise technology solutions to support business units; develops detailed designs and defines user requirements by collaborating with process owners.

  • Documents business processes and transaction steps; defines codes and values; addresses integration issues.

  • Develops testing criteria and conducts testing; plans implementation strategies; communicates technical information to the user community.

  • Analyzes the need for modification and enhancement to existing enterprise applications by evaluating effectiveness of current technology.

  • Leads user group forums; performs workflow and process analysis; identifies impacts to business processes.

  • Revises user and system requirements; designs modifications and prepares change notices; integrates modifications; develops testing criteria and conducts testing; provides technical consultation and solutions.

  • Supports the overall effectiveness of the use of enterprise applications systems by its users; offers technical support and user training.

  • Establishes training needs and develops training materials; conducts classroom and on-the-job training.

  • Troubleshoots user obstacles and system problems through training and/or on-line support; provides technical consultation and solutions.

  • Provides business units with business necessity information by designing user reports; modifies and produces standard and custom reports and forms; performs ad-hoc queries; works with users to define reporting needs.

  • Selects, or assist in selecting and orienting new staff; provides staff training; performs or assists in evaluating work performance results.

  • Administers the department budget by participating in planning, monitoring, and revising schedules, work plans, expenditures, and assignments.

  • Performs or assists in the preparation of procurement or bid documents, the evaluation of proposals, and the recommendation of awards to contractors or vendors.

  • Plans, reviews, coordinates, conducts and/or guides work activities and research of information associated with internal/external business unit projects in accordance with established task objectives and schedules as outlined in the project plan/contract.

  • Performs related duties as required.

Required Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Required Experience Qualifications

  • At least five (5+) years of progressively responsible relevant work experience supporting business units/departments utilizing enterprise application systems and business analysis, process design, configuration, testing, documentation and implementation.

Knowledge Of

Enterprise application systems design, configuration, and functionality and/or techniques of configuration, design and functionality; advanced applications of implementation strategies; advanced concepts of the system development lifecycle; complex concepts of data modeling, report design, data maintenance and retrieval; techniques and practices for resolving complex technical issues; complex computer systems and resources, electronic records, and database administration functions; methods and techniques of planning, organizing, and overseeing work activities; techniques for exercising leadership and authority; methods and techniques of training staff; basic budgeting techniques; principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation; office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Skills To

Analyze business processes and match user requirements to system capabilities; develop detailed specifications; determine system integration points; develop testing criteria and conduct testing; troubleshoot user and system problems; perform ad hoc reporting and make script changes to reports and forms; act as functional lead on moderate to complex projects; identify, assess, and coordinate training needs for staff; evaluate and resolve complex technical and/or management issues and develop/implement resolution alternatives; compile and prepare technical, statistical and/or analytical reports and presentations; write new and revised policies and procedures; express ideas/facts clearly and concisely to individual or groups, taking into account the audience and nature of information; stay abreast of new IT technology, tools, and methods to support and develop business applications; utilize a personal computer and/or computer terminal, systems and software relevant to the job; communicate effectively orally and in writing internally/externally; establish and maintain effective internal/external working relationships and work effectively in diverse teams.

Desirable Education

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, MIS or a related field is desirable.

Desirable Qualifications

At least one (1+) year experience within electric utility on the distribution side of the grid utilizing and supporting multiple of the following:

  • OSII Monarch Platform Support and administration (ADMS, OMS, DERMS, etc.) or comparable OT type applications for distribution

  • Understanding of DERMS, DERs, Load flexibility and the systems and programs that support them.

  • Experience supporting Operation Technology systems such as ADMS/OMS/EMS and/or Work Force Management solutions such as Click, IFS, Salesforce, etc.

  • Experience and understanding of Smart meters and Itron/Silver Springs AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure)

At least three (3+) years of technical experience in multiple of the following areas:

  • Project management and or lead role on multi-year complex technology projects (must have strong organizational skills)

  • Analyst role for enterprise systems (strong skills from gathering user requirements to solutioning to implementing the required technical modifications or configurations to enterprise systems)

  • Experience defining, implementing and supporting enterprise applications that require moderately complex integrations to one or more systems such as SAP, ADMS, OMS, etc.

  • Complex enterprise systems troubleshooting, support, configuration and administration

  • Experience in creating detailed test plans and test scripts, and extensive experience in executing end-to-end test scripts

  • Working with field or operation units at an electric utility or equivalent in an analyst role

  • Work force management solution support for field services

  • Working within Waterfall and Agile development process

Licenses/Certificates

Certification in IT, or related field is desirable.

On-site Work

This role will be an on-site role that will require being in person at one of SMUD's campuses daily to complete work tasks.
