Description

A Patient Registration specialist, also known as a patient registrar, is responsible for collecting and verifying patient information to ensure proper scheduling, billing and patient care.

Key duties may include:

  • Greeting patients upon arrival and ensuring all their contact information and health insurance details are up-to-date.

  • Collecting co-payments or outstanding balances for services rendered.

  • Scheduling patient appointments and procedures.

  • Answering inquiries about services, costs, policies and other relevant matters.

  • Filling out and processing necessary paperwork and documents.

  • Verifying and updating patient insurance details.

  • Ensuring all patient health records are accurately entered into the healthcare databank.

  • Coordinating with medical staff to ensure quality patient care and service.

Moreover, the position may require a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a solid understanding of medical terminology, healthcare administration procedures, and relevant software systems. Good communication and organizational skills are often necessary, given the nature of the role. In some instances, the role might entail a deep understanding of, and the capability to navigate, health insurance procedures and claims.
