The Position:

The Computing and Information Technology Directorate is seeking a Business Process Re-Engineering (BPR) Architect to lead the establishment of a laboratory capability that will provide business process re-engineering thought leadership, targeted initially around PNNL’s ERP initiatives.

Join the ERP Program Office as we lead a multi-year initiative to modernize and transform the lab’s approach to best-in-class systems. As part of this dynamic and high-impact team, you’ll help drive a program that fosters excellence in governance and project management, working in collaboration with PMOs across the lab. The ERP PMO is a center of innovation and strategic execution, providing oversight, support, and decision-making capabilities that drive successful outcomes. By integrating advanced methodologies, tools, and resources, we empower teams to deliver projects with precision and efficiency. Working with key stakeholders, this role will establish a consistent, lab-wide discipline for the redesign and simplification of business processes to drive significant improvements in productivity, cycle times, quality, and employee satisfaction. In addition, the BPR Architect will consult with leaders and project teams to ensure consistent implementation of the process engineering discipline. The successful candidate will also be expected to partner with individuals from other disciplines like business analysts, development teams, change management, communications, and user experience to provide human-centered solutions for PNNL. Through the execution of this transformation program, the person in this position will directly impact on PNNL’s mission outcomes.

  • Thought Leadership and Change Agent: The BPR Architect will lead the establishment of a laboratory capability around business process re-engineering. This will involve engaging with key stakeholders to understand current practices and define a standard approach that will lead to buy-in and adoption. The BPR Architect will serve as a change agent working collaboratively within and across directorates, divisions, and departments to implement a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement. The BPR Architect will support the development of others on the discipline of BPR through training, coaching, and mentoring.

  • Process Analysis and Mapping: Working closely with Business Transformation Analysts and ensuring that formal process engineering methodologies are leveraged, the BPR Architect defines the ERP Program’s process Re-engineering strategy and stewards the comprehensive analyses of existing business processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement. The BPR team documents current workflows, dependencies, and pain points through process mapping techniques to gain a holistic understanding of the as-is state.

  • Redesign and Optimization: Based on the findings from process analysis, the BPR Architect collaborates closely with business transformation analysts to redesign processes from the ground up. This involves challenging existing assumptions, eliminating non-value-added activities, and streamlining workflows to optimize resource utilization and enhance overall performance.

  • Technology Integration: The BPR team works closely with Solutions Architecture to align on capabilities to support process redesign efforts and facilitate seamless integration with the technical solutions.

  • Change Management and Stakeholder Engagement: Implementing significant process changes requires careful change management and stakeholder engagement. The BPR Architect supports the ERP PMO and works closely with the People Organizational Change Management (OCM) team to effectively communicate the rationale for change, address concerns, and garner support for the redesigned processes. This includes providing training, resources, and ongoing support to ensure smooth transition and adoption.

  • Performance Measurement and Continuous Improvement: Monitoring the performance of redesigned processes is essential for assessing the effectiveness of BPR initiatives. The BPR Architect develops key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track improvements in productivity, cycle times, quality, and employee satisfaction. Continuous monitoring and feedback mechanisms enable iterative refinement and continuous improvement of processes over time.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA and 11 years of relevant experience -OR-

  • MS/MA or higher and 9 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates for this position should have a background that would enable them to use a variety of reliability analytics or performance monitoring tools such as causal analysis, statistical analysis, value stream mapping, FMEA, data analytics, business intelligence software, and/or Lean/Six Sigma.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading business process re-engineering in large, complex initiatives, especially ERP implementations.

  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with leaders at all levels of the organization.

  • Experience in partnering with other disciplines like change management, communications, and user experience to create more holistic human-centered solutions.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent active listening skills.

Starting pay is calculated from the minimum of the pay range and actual placement in the range is determined based on an individual’s relevant job-related skills, qualifications, and experience. Instead, our compensation offers are determined by the specific requirements of the position, prevailing market trends, applicable collective bargaining agreements, pay equity for the position type, and individual qualifications and skills relevant to the performance of the position.
