BASIC PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to assist Sacramento County Operations with Christmas efforts including the coordination of the Angel Tree Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interview clients and prepares all necessary paperwork for families to participate in the Christmas Program, and other types of assistance such as rent, utilities and food.

  • Provides intake, assessment and financial assistance to low-income families and individuals.

  • Prepares client files, enters client data into tracking sheets, compiles records and prepares reports.

  • Maintains records of all persons interviewed and records either the type of assistance given or the reason why assistance was denied.

  • Refers clients to community resources and other organizations as appropriate for the client's needs.

  • Accesses and records client and community resource information.

  • Makes phone calls to past and potential toy donors and follow-up emails with donors.

  • Answers and assists any Angel Tree and toy drive inquiries and questions.

  • Orders Christmas Supplies and maintains Angel Tree tags.

  • Provides relationships with donors through phone and email.

  • Composes and types routine correspondence with donors.

  • Updates Christmas operation tracking spreadsheet in an Excel document daily.

  • Organizes and maintains Christmas operation tracking spreadsheet, toy drive and Angel Tree response forms, tracking of tag delivery and drop off sheet, and other related Christmas donor records.

  • Prepares Angel Tree delivery bags with appropriate assigned tags, handouts, posters, and numbered toy bags.

  • Records and tracks toy barrel deliveries and pickups while maintaining correspondence with Operations Manager.

  • Distributes Angel Tree tags and Angel Tree paperwork to appropriate personnel.

  • Coordinates with Social Services using the Christmas registration database and software.

  • Train at Social Services for Christmas application intakes and Christmas software.

  • Communicate with the media sponsors, arrange tag delivery, and assign a date of pick up for them.

  • Assists with Angel Tree at the malls as needed.

  • Assists with various events and provides support with special assignments, projects, and other programs as directed.

  • Other related duties may be assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a person of high integrity, beliefs, and lifestyle, and in agreement with The Salvation Army’s mission statement.

  • Ability to work independently and without daily immediate supervision.

  • Ability to work in a team environment, and multi-task required duties.

  • Must be prepared to encounter a variety of assignments and timelines.

  • Be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials and information.

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have an open, welcoming and helpful presence and attitude with all people.

  • Ability to learn modern office procedures and equipment.

  • Knowledge of The Salvation Army practices, policies and organizational resources.

  • Must be punctual, organized, reliable, honest and responsible.

  • Ability to effectively present information over the phone and in small group situations to donors, clients, and other employees of the organization.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle

  • Must be 21 years or older.

  • Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to the CA DMV Pull Notice Program

  • Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.

  • Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.

  • Ability to reach overhead.

  • Ability to lift up to 10-20 lbs. for positions that require lifting.

  • Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
