Corewell Health Research Scientist in Royal Oak, Michigan

Job Summary

Under minimal supervision of the Principal Investigator and with a high degree of autonomy, the Research Scientist works as a team leader and co-investigator to both perform and lead specific research projects within the Lab. The Research Scientist will perform and design experiments, collaborate with members in the lab and within the Research Institute, perform data analysis, and prepare reports. The Research Scientist will also be expected to participate in grant preparation for research projects in Lab.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain an active research program through the identification of relevant areas of study, developing appropriate approaches, and presenting the results. Collaborate with other researchers and trainees to generate research ideas and develop protocols.

  • Research Scientist – Laboratory will manage all aspects of the research laboratory, including staff selection and training, project assignment and scheduling, monitoring of project funds, coordination of data generation and analysis, and acquisition and use of equipment and facilities.

  • Review current literature in relevant fields. Critically evaluate research data and prepare research results for publication in refereed journals and presentations at scientific meetings.

  • Seek grant support for new and/or continuing research activities, including identification of funding sources, grant development and preparation, managing of awarded grants.

  • Participate and/or lead routine departmental research meetings; serve on research committees as delegated.

  • Provide research methodology training to research fellows, postdocs, residents, technicians, and students.

  • Perform related departmental/divisional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Required The Research Scientist – Laboratory requires a PhD degree in related research arena and minimum of two years related postdoctoral research experience. The Research Scientist - Clinical requires a PhD degree in Population Health Sciences, Epidemiology or other clinical arena (e.g., Nursing) and a minimum of two years related postdoctoral clinical research experience. The Research Scientist – Health Economist requires a PhD degree in economics, health economics, health management and/or policy, health services research or related fields. Both Laboratory and Clinical Research Scientist must have evidence of research productivity and independence.

  • 2 years of relevant experience Minimum of two years postdoctoral research training and/or experience, including evidence of research productivity. Required

  • Experience working with graduate students and/or medical students. Required

  • Evidence of authorship and successful grant submissions. Required

  • Research Scientist – Laboratory; experience with specialized techniques and procedures used in research specific department. Required

  • Research Scientist – Clinical must have relevant clinical research experience and experience designing clinical research protocols. Required
