Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Machinist 4 . This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.

What You’ll Get To Do:

This job involves machining parts per specification by setting up and operating CNC equipment. The Machinist is responsible for: quality of the product by performing both in-process and final part inspections, care and maintenance of the equipment, assuring tooling and materials readiness, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. This position will require the individual to provide training to others in all aspects of CNC equipment setup, operation and maintenance. Comply with daily tool control with the use of tool chits and daily toolbox inventory at the beginning and end of each shift. Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; uses a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Full knowledge of the machinist job

  • Complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job, and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.

  • Supervision Given and Receiving Limited supervision.

  • No instructions needed on routine work, and general instructions given on new lines of work or special assignments.

  • May assist in orienting, training, assigning and checking the work of lower level employees. Typical Duties and Tasks Duties & tasks are varied and moderately complex.

  • Resolves most questions and problems. Refers complex questions to higher levels.

  • Consequence of errors may be difficult to detect and would normally result in loss of customer business, material, or equipment to resolve.

  • Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments, and/or representing outside organizations.

  • Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data on matters of moderate importance to the function of the department or which may be of sensitive nature.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years additional education and/or related experience.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

  • Must have the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)

  • Able to work in a standing position for extended time periods.

  • Able to lift or move a minimum of 35 -50 lbs. for up to 12 hours per day; pushing or pulling 35 -50+ lbs. occasionally throughout the work day.

  • Must have experience running manual machines and performing set-ups.

  • Must be able to use common shop hand tools and cordless drill motors.

  • Must be able to assemble parts and assemblies with the use of common hand tools

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • CNC programmer and experience operating NX software.

  • Ability to understand and work with knowledge of principles and Lean manufacturing disciplines.

  • 3/5 axis CNC is required and a familiarity with HAAS control would be preferred.

  • Manually programming CNCs from 2D drawings.

  • Experience with G code

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve unforeseen, unique issues as they arise in machining a part(s).

  • Availability to work overtime and weekends as required.

  • Strong understanding of materials selection and machining processes.

Salary Range: $59,300 - $98,800

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
