Federal Emergency Management Agency Police Officer in Round Hill, Virginia

Summary In this position you will work as a member of the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC), Emergency Services Division, Police Branch. MWEOC is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, approximately 60 miles west of Washington, DC. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience maintaining law and order, protecting life, property, and civil rights of individuals, and national security information. Responsibilities All MWEOC staff have emergency assignments and are considered deployed in place. Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays. All MWEOC employees are: (1) required to use a government-issued electronic device (to include cellular phones); (2) subject to recall during emergency situations; and (3) required to perform work in locations both above and below ground. What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as a Police Officer maintaining law and order and security while protecting life, property, and the civil rights of individuals. You will have full authority to carry firearms and make arrests in order to detect and investigate a wide range of incidents in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. Typical assignments include: Enforcing federal laws and regulations for the protection of life and property while carrying firearms. Making arrests without a warrant for any offense, patrolling the facility grounds and structures to prevent and detect theft, damage, or unauthorized entry, monitoring alarm systems, closed circuit television systems, and telephone and radio networks, regulating pedestrian and vehicular traffic, receiving and acting on calls concerning reports of breaches of the peace, violations, complaints, emergencies, accidents, and/or injuries, taking statements from persons involved and follows up on information obtained. Serving warrants and subpoenas issued under the authority of the United States, conducting investigations, on and off the MWEOC, of offenses that may have been committed against property owned or occupied by the federal government or persons on the property. Preparing incident reports and other appropriate documentation relevant to breaches of the peace, acts of violence, theft of federal or personal property, and other violations committed on federally owned or controlled property at the MWEOC and assisting federal, state, or local law enforcement officials in follow-up investigation. Conducting long and short-term investigations, completing investigations of all crimes (both felony and misdemeanor, investigating complaints, leads/tips, develops leads, obtains physical evidence, seeking out witnesses for questions, takes testimony, preparing reports, making recommendations and preparing cases for prosecution. Qualifications Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The time-in-grade requirement must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Applying law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques OR, Conducting long and short-term investigations OR, Identifying/arresting violators OR, Taking witness statements and writing incident reports. In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must have already completed a Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers' (FLETC) Uniform Police Training Program, Mixed Basic Training Program, or Criminal Investigator Training Program requirement to be considered qualified for the position. Wear various Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include respirators, masks, self-contained breathing apparatus, and armored vests. Meet requirements of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(9), known as the "Lautenberg Agreement" which outlines carrying of firearms. Must be able to continue to perform the duties of this position in the event of a crisis until relieved by proper authority. Subject to supervisory inspection and approval of attire, as an officer representing MWPD, for professional and competent image to include a clean, neatly pressed uniform or attire for tidy appearance in accordance to established dress code. Carry firearms or other weapons authorized for their specific jurisdiction & must qualify bi-annually with authorized weapons and demonstrate skill and proficiency in their uses.
