This is a 100% in-person position at the job site and not eligible for teleworking. This was previously posted and is being reposted for additional applications.

This position performs semi-skilled work in a variety of trade areas involving modular furniture, including the designing of modular office layouts, removing and installing modular office parts, and repairing building walls and equipment through established procedures and under general supervision. This position drives to various MnDOT locations frequently.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and construction work sufficient to carry out detailed work directions.

  • Ability to operate a variety of building-related tools (e.g., various hand tools, drills, circular saw, etc.).

  • Physical ability to frequently carry up to sixty (60) pound boxes and to move up to one thousand-pound loads with equipment.

  • Organizational skills sufficient to order and track parts for application of job details, such as ordering and maintaining inventory of modular parts.

  • Previous experience taking apart, repairing, and assembling modular furniture pieces or comparable experience.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Knowledge of math sufficient to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers.

Required :

  • Forklift operator certification or ability to obtain certification.

  • Valid Class D Driver’s License with NONE of the following:major traffic convictions in the past 5 years; OR 4 or more minor violations in the last 3 years; OR any combination of minor violations and at-fault accidents totaling 4 or more occurrences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Customer service skills sufficient to communicate with customers in a professional manner.

  • Experience with spreadsheet software applications such as Microsoft Excel sufficient to enter data and maintain spreadsheets (e.g., parts and furniture inventory).

  • Computer experience sufficient to complete required online training (e.g., workplace safety, cyber security, etc.).

  • Experience using Outlook to read, compose and respond to email.

Physical Requirements

Pre-Employment Physical Exam: A pre-placement physical examination is required for this position. Current employees who have successfully bid or are moving into a different functional work area will be required to complete the pre-employment physical exam for the area they are moving into. The scope of the physical exam will be limited to whether the employee can safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, in compliance with state and federal law.
